You probably haven't driven much in the western states where the roads are straight and there are long distances between pockets of people. My '68 Cadillac Fleetwood and '85 VW Quantum weren't great at 1/4 miles speeds, but cruised at 110 just fine.

Just replace your tires with higher rated 19'S.

I believe the SS's are aero limited just like the SS Cobalts.
GM if I remember correctly stated the SS Cobalt could not
exceed 148, however I've had mine up to 155 just after I broke it in.

Yup! My '65 Fleetwood would LUNGE from 80 to 100 without hesitation...with $29 crap-o tires on it! Sigh...the one that got away...

hover over View Stats
118mph(18-inch tires)/155mph (19/20/21-inch tires)
**all models electronically limited**
the stock tires are that way.

the wheel size don't affect the speed rating. if they wanted to put some Y-rated tires on the 18" wheels, they could've, but they went with some lower-speed all-seasons.

ps - there's plenty of threads discussing this topic.

Heh. I'll be replacing the tires, but not for the speed rating - I want them to be stickier. The stock tires will become my burnout babies. 2 matching sets of tires for the rear wheels, to burn at my pleasure? Perfect.
