I talked to my dealer about getting an early 1st oil change. They stated GM uses a special additive in the factory oil fill to help with the engine break in and they are highly encouaged by GM to leave the factory oil in and not do an early oil change so the additive can do its work during the break in period.

I am going to say your dealer just fed you a line with that one. What special additive could they have added?

Cheers

I agree that it does sound like it could be a line, but what incentive would they have for turning down business ? They could have sold me an oil change but instead said it would actually being doing more harm than good for them to do an early oil change.

Not necessarily turning down business but more not knowing any better. Honda is one manufacturer that does use an oil additive in order to bed and burnish the main bearings. With this little bit of knowledge it could morph into all manufacturers do this and best to leave it in the oil.

A little bit of customer service knowledge can go a long way in the hands of the uneducated.

It's called assembly lube.
