Someone had mentioned that the SS has the history of a true muscle car behind it. That is very true. The V6 looks like a muscle car and is rated at more HP than many cars on the road but I purchased mine less on the rep of the V6 Camaro being a "muscle car" but more so on aesthetics, space (vs. my Saturn SKY), features, and, equally as important, gas mileage rating. BTW, you must be careful with operating the convertible top in cold weather. The owners manual states that the top should not be operated below a certain temperature (R/T the potential for the top mechanism / motor to be damaged). That's definitely something to be acutely aware of as once your top is damaged, it can turn into a catastrophe, depending on the weather and where you park / store your car during inclement weather. If you opt for the V6 'vert, perhaps wrap your mind around the fact that you're buying less of a muscle car and more of a cruiser. In particular with the auto tranny, it'll be a nice, relaxing driving experience. It'll still have plenty of HP to get you into trouble and offer one heck of an exciting driving experience with the top down at normal / "civil" speeds without trying to drive it aggressively. Even with the top up, the driving sensation is quite different to that of driving a hardtop sedan. Either way you go, you'll be owning a very, very nice car that will garner "looks", compliments and comments. Be aware, however, the 'vert will have less trunk space, esp. with the top down. I'm relatively confident your sales consultant won't object to you wanting to test drive your two candidates a couple of times in order to get a much better "feel" for both.

If gas isn't an issue I would go ss. How much are you really going to use to the convert. Not in winter and summer gets so hot the ac is much better than driving down the road hot as hell. Just my two cents.

The main issue with driving in the snow isn't because it's a rear-wheel drive, it's more to do with the wide soft compound tires it comes with.
If you choose to drive it throughout the winter, just invest in a simple set of wheels, put some snow-rated tires on them and use those for the winter. The V6 will get a lot better mileage than the V8 all things considered, and from what I hear, the V6 has plenty of oomph. Personally, for a daily drive with a 160 mile commute each day, I'd opt for the V6 Auto Vert. Enjoy the mpg, and the sun. |

No to steal your thread, OP, but I don't like Sonata. Very cheap feeling.
But this is a hard choice. I would say go with the vert, but then you'd have two V6s, and I would say go with the SS, but then you'd have two coupes... |

SS....you'll probably regret it if you don't. Even with the mileage you drive.

I'd go bat shit nuts if I had to drive my SS 160 miles a day.
Its loud, rough, thirsty but damn I love it! I have a 120 mile round trip commute and a 2012 Civic. For you, if youre an open top person, get the convertible. If youre more into speed and accelleration, get the SS. Either way you cant go wrong. Nothing wrong with the V6. Good luck. |

Dude you live in Michigan, get the coupe if it's a daily driver. Get the vert if you plan to park it for the winter.
