Right now GM needs to do what it can to make money. After the Loyalists get their cars they'll calm down. I've said it before and I'll say it again, if GM counted on the Enthusiasts alone, they wouldn't sell enough of these cars to make it profitable. 95% of the country still doesn't even know about the new Camaro. The number of people who would cancel their orders over this is probably small enough it won't matter to GM.

Does it make me angry? HELL YES. But I'll still be jazzed when I get my car.

I didn't see that many for Avis. Even though they are For Moreno Valley they are being delivered all over the Country. The address for Moreno Valley is in NJ. These cars are not going to be on their lot. There seems to be some over reaction here.

There are alot of people out there (including myself) who will rent a car for a week before buying it.

I understand why they are sending them to the rental companies. Good business move.

Building "dealer" cars is not though...people have been clamoring for this car...people have gone to the dealers MONTHS in advance placing down their hard-earned money in deposits...and they build cars that won't be sold...first. A car sitting in a dealer showroom will not get people into the showroom to look at the car.

If the public sees these vehicles on the road...and how nice they look...THEN they'll go out of their way to search out this car.

Avis getting the cars doesn't bother me...because people will see the cars on the road and inquire about them. (Although the resale value will stink...but we all knew they'd be rental fleet cars anyways (same with the Mustang)).

Sorry but this does piss me off. Rental car places should be the LAST place we see these Camaros...

and that's just MHO.

RPO, I believe you can log into the system and see for yourself where they're going.

As far as I know, they were ordered by AVIS and are just being routed through Moreno Valley in CA. The address in NJ is Avis's corporate headquarters. They aren't even being delivered to dealers but directly to Avis locations.

Yes, count me as one of those people that are "afraid". We are airing out information that typically isn't readily available. Bitching about the not-so-good things we may find isn't going to help anyone. It's only going to serve to make those who run the system try harder to prevent us from accessing this information. It would be fairly easy for a web developer to make a few changes to the site code to make it all go away. We don't need to give them more reason to do this. If it's harmless, there's no reason for them to make an effort. So please, let's keep the bitching to a minimum. We'll all get our cars soon enough. It's 3% of the cars. Really not a significant number if you ask me.

Reality check here- GM is trying to stay alive. While they may have no made the best business decisions in the past, hopefully they are now. I never thought, nor expected, that GM would ship the 1st 14,000 cars to individual owners. What kind of strategy is that?

I'm just extremely happy now that I will finally be getting a 2010 "1969" Camaro. I think everyone should be thanking UCF & Heinz for their hard work, instead of bitching about the contents. Don't use the cool stuff they've created to help us out and whine about it. And to think that someone would decide not to buy the car just because of the spreadsheet content is crazy.

Just think: You go and buy that $30k fully loaded V6 RS and in 10 months get to see YOUR CAR being wholesaled at the corner rental disposal center for $17,990. Makes you feel real special as a car owner. THIS IS A BONEHEADED STUPID IDIOTIC MARKETING METHOD THAT ONLY SERVES TO DEMINISH THE VALUE OF THE CARS WE HOLD DEAR. Resale value goes into the toilet - has for decades - when crap like this occurs. "Check out the new V6 Camaro! Isn't she hot? Yeah you can have her - slot B5 right between the white G5 and the Toyota Yaris appliance."
Well that just sounds ridiculous... threatening to not buy one just because they will be offered as rental cars?

Good luck with that.

quoted for TRUTH!

How many THOUSANDS of cars does Avis buy from GM EVERY SINGLE YEAR? Why shouldn't they get preferential treatment? They've EARNED it with their spend. What you SHOULD be pissed about is that there continues to be more and more toyotas, nissans, and kias in the rental car lots....

In this corner...weighing in at fourty THOUSAND dollars....we have your individual buyer!

And in this corner....weighing in at 7.7 BIIIIILLLLLION dollars over the next five years....we have AAAAAVVVVVIIIIIIISSSSSSSSSS

I wonder who's going to win that fight? (1 vehicle versus 350,000)

If GM wants dealer cars and AVIS cars to be produced now along with preorders fine. My only complaint would be production. Start ramping up production damn it! WE HAVE MONEY TO SPEND! Add shifts if you have too! I'm sure the workers at the plant would welcome more work! I'm getting sick of the excuses.

They have to look at what the demand for a car is months from now when making a decision to add or eliminate a shift. If they get the plant up to 450 cars per day, we will all have our cars by the promised date (Q3).
