I've never bought a new car. I've bought lots of slightly used ones, but never new. I'd actually be kind of sad to see more than 2 miles on the clock. :(

When I ordered my 06 Silverado Vmax it arrived at the dealership with 2 miles on it my sales person made sure they truck was not touched until I arrived they did remove the plastic off the hood, and bumper but I did the rest after I signed the papers. When I drove her home she had 3 miles on it

My dealer said no more than 5. Seems reasonable.

My dealer told me about the PDI and said no more than 5 to 7 miles and offered to let me be there when it had to go for a test. I made a lot of jokes about joyrides and let it be known I would be really upset if there were more than 10 miles on the car.

While talking to my dealer about the delivery day, he said if I wanted the plastic on it I could keep it on, that he will let me know when the truck will be there if I wanted to watch them unload it and go with the tech on the PDI.
Then went on to say that if I could not make it when my Camaro gets there, he promised me it would be on the showroom floor and that NO ONE except for the PDI tech would be driving it. If the odometer has any more than 15 miles on it, I will not be a happy camper and try to score some Camaro stuff due to my baby being deflowered by someone else.. |

I order a cobalt in 2006, when I got it, there were 13 miles on it. So I'd say AROUND 10, way less than 30.

25 or less.
It all depends on the transit. We had a tahoe Hybrid from Texas come in with 77 miles right from the factory. the good news is, regardless what it has on it, thats where your warranty starts. If I were buying, I would just take the car....Telling a dealer no more than 10 gives them an excuse to drive it to 12 and say sorry, we'll put this out on the lot and order you another.... |

According to my service manager who is a 30 year veteran GM Master Tech, the PDI inspection is required by GM and does require a test drive. Most vehicles that come off the trucks have a mile or two on them. If you've seen the videos and pictures from the Oshawa of employees driving them from the plant to the stocking lots, you know why. There may be more miles on it if there was a problem with it coming off the production line or if it was pulled off for a random inspection which Quality Control does from time to time.
We as a dealer are required to make sure all the systems in the vehicle work and that does require us to drive it. There is no stated parameters set by GM for how far it needs to be driven. We do have to make sure the transmission shifts through all gears and that the cruise control works and that all systems work, so it needs to brought up to operating temperature. That makes it necessary to drive at highway speeds. For any particular dealer the mileage could vary depending on where they are. Not every dealer is 100 yards from the closest highway. At our dealership, for special cars like the Corvette or Solstice GXP or G8 GXP we don't let the 21 year old quick lube kid do the PDI test drive. A senior mechanic or manager or sales consultant does this. Every new GM vehicle is supposed to be dleivered with a full tank of gas so yes, we do drive it to the gas station. I understand the comments about techs or employees joy-riding in new cars. If you have concerns let your dealer know ahead of time that you will be pissed if they go hot rodding it around town before you even get a chance to sit in it. For everyone on this website who is purchasing a Camaro, make sure you let your dealer know what your preferences are for delivery. I'm sure they will accomodate you with any special requests as far as this is concerned. Just understand that someone will drive yoru car before you will and that the dealer is responsible for getting the car to you in perfect working condition. If you take the car without having the PDI done, you will be responsible for it's condition, not the dealer!!

My 2005 Mustang had 7 miles on it when I picked it up. I think PDI is required for all carmakers, not just GM. Mine had 2 on it when it came off the flatbed, and the PDI accounted for 5 more.
