The tire is a ZR20 106Y - this means that the tire is a Z rated tire, meaning the top speed is in excess of 149 mph. The 106 is the load rating... but the most important number is the Y. This is the top speed the tire was tested at in excess of 149 mph. A Y rated tire is good to a verified test speed of 186 mph. I am wondering what super cars have as tires or... Y is the last rating, up to 186 and we know a good number of cars exceed that number. I do not expect the ZL1 to break 186 mph due to aerodynamics and weight.

Not sure why they limited the SS 30 mph below the tire rating...
Its like the sky rides at san diego zoo or sea world. Rated to 400lbs but can actually handle 600lbs. Its just a way of not taking risk, cause if I built a swing to 150 lbs but I know it can handle 200lbs. If they are 200lbs and break the swing, it is not my fault at all because the warning said the max and they pushed it. So if they know the tires can handle 30mph more, why not take a precaution and rate it a little lower and save your a^$

From looking at the pictures of the tires on the ZL1 convertible where I've been able to see the tire rating, I think that the load rating is 100, and not 106. Save the attached image of the ZL1 convertible, and check out the the tire rating of the front left tire.

Weight has very little to do with top speed; it's almost all aerodynamics that dictate top speed.

I think I read somewhere that past 100 mph weight doesn't play much of an issue. As you said, aerodynamics are key.

Mr. Link wasn't even going full throttle down the back straight in that video, so I bet if you get ZL1 on a straight, flat, smooth surface, mid-180s will be easy. After the video at the 'Ring, my initial guess might be too conservative

Not so sure about that... he was doing all the RPM's the car was rated for....

HAHAAHA.... I'm afraid at 180 a bird might drop a splatter bomb on my windsheild and without my fire suit and helmet and roll cage, I'd be a goner!!

If the telemetry was accurate, going down that straight, the G'dots should've been a deep green color. Some of that time it was blue or black, indicating little throttle input; if he were on the brakes, the dots would be red. Have another look at the video and run and pay particular attention I don't know if the car would've been controlable going faster - I'm just saying he was WOT the whole time.

Icky...
Valid point... but go back and notice the RPM's at what MPH was it?
171 MPH?
Clearly indicates a pretty much WOT condition.... OR at least to a point anything more and it would be either floating valves or slinging a few.... Yeah, lets see if we can blow this puppy up ON camera.....

Cool.. let us know what you see, we all may need a review..
I am referring mainly to the last long back stretch that mark said was what a Mile long? Plenty of room to stretch the Zl1's legs id think...
