A good friend drives a GT and we always admire each other's car...no bashing.

My first car was a 66 mustang so I totally get the mutual respect thing... Any time I see any kind of muscle car or hot rod for that matter I get all excited and try to figure out what kind it is!

Right after I got my car, a V6, I was at a light with a 2009 Shelby. We both politely pulled out and traveled at the speed limit to the next light about a mile down the road. About 500 feet before that light the Shelby guy showed me where it is at, a burst of speed without smoke. The light was red so he smiled, I smiled, and he turned right on red.

I got behind an older late 80s or early 90s mustang the other day that was loud sounding, so getting on the on-ramp we both took off hard, me behind him. f course I had to keep breaking, because his wasn't to fast but he gave me thumbs up and waved a few times. We never broke the speed limit and weren't really racing, just accelerating quickly onto the highway. Cool guy though to appreciate other muscle cars.

a bit more history:

Fisher Body always built the bodies for GM cars. (as did Fleetwood and several others in the 20s and 30s...)

The First Gen Camaros had Bodies by Fisher -meaning that Fisher (a Division of GM, by the way ) - would assemble the entire body from the firewall back - including the complete interior - window glass- exterior trim - and even the vinyl top......

........the car would then go thru a hole in the wall (so to speak) into the Chevrolet Assembly plant - where the drivetrain was installed as well as the front sheetmetal, grille, bumper, etc........completing the car.

That changed once we went to GM Assembly Division.........

But for many, many years, the door sill read "Body by Fisher" or "Body by Fleetwood" (Cadillac)

....and when I was a young pup and working out 6 days a week in the Gym, I would wear a 'Body by Fisher' T-shirt.

(......HEY.......is that snickering I hear in the background????? )

Cool story, my camaro is kept in the garage at night next a family members mustang gt. they keep us up at night fighting with each other, but when i come out to check on them they swear they're just joking around and its all in good fun! had both garage doors open one day and the mail man pulled into the driveway (i've never seen any mail person do that! so i thought it was really cool) and asked "which ones faster!" mine being the v6 i pointed to the GT... I love all cars! 2 days ago a friend asked which was faster, i said the GT. he said "oh so it smokes you!" i said "well i wouldn't say smoke..." family member laughed saying "you don't like that term smoked huh?!" ... did i mention i love cars!

I see fbodfather left off the part about them building Ford bodies for a while.

I did a spin-off earlier if you're interested in more Fisher Body history.
