Is GM saying the top was put down wet or is it the dealership service people.

The dealership did originally and I said it was bunk. Then once they started researching it they realized I was right. My car was the first they had seen with these issues and were going off what they had seen previously on other cars. I called the service rep on that and he just said those were the original notes and if Chevy had questions to call him. Good young kid willing to help out whenever possible.

As mentioned above, you are more likely to see negative comments about issues folks have had on forums such as this since folks are rightfully frustrated and use this as a safe place to vent/commisserate/investigate and in some cases find ways to resolve their issues.
You also will find that folks here are extremely passionate about their vehicle, otherwise we wouldn't bother spending time at places like these! ![]() In addition to soliciting opinions here (and my opinion is that while I have had a few issues with the car, I am super happy with my purchase and have no desire to trade it), you might watch out for other vert owners in your area (especially on the weekends), and try to talk with them. They may not be the enthusiasts that you find here, but I have found that most of them are enthusiastic about their cars and happy to discuss them. By catching up with some of those owners that might not know of every issue discussed on these forums, they might give you a better unbiased view of the vehicle. I love the coupe, but like you, really was wanting to get back into a vert after being away from them for 10+ years. For me the choice was simple ... it was a Camaro Convertible or wait to find a vert of a different type that suited my tastes... 3 months later, 2 warranty issues, a few minot defects to be resolved later, 6000 miles and I don't regret it for a moment.

Since your getting a v6 don't get a manual. They are known for issues and it will frustrate you til you hate the car. I used to love my coupe. I can't wait to get rid of it because its such a chore to drive. I just got it back again and its notchier shifting than it ever has. Just a heads up.

So true Gyna. I have encountered a few vert owners in the little I have had it on the road. Told them about this site and what to watch out for. 1 thought the rub marks were normal and his were worse than mine and almost through. Told him about the TSB's and do get it in and get documented. I have not heard one person complain about their car. The only complaints I have seen have been about things that went wrong like me. But when I got behind the wheel for the first time in 2 weeks today, problems and all the Permagrin came right back.

I agree, I have the same concerns with rub marks, etc. I've done the mods shown in other threads and they seem to have helped to the point that they don't look like they are getting any worse.
I made a point with the dealership to have the service manager document my concerns with the rub marks at my first service appointment. I am waiting for confirmed fixes from GM for this, then I will push the dealership to replace the top under warranty. Until then, I'll keep enjoying it.

Trust me, it's a beautiful time of the year for a vert in NC! No matter which way you drive, to the coast, the mountains, or anywhere in between.
We made the decision 25 days ago and I don't regret it for a second! (Besides, I knew if I gave in, I'd get my Silverado the same night...win, win...lol) I was never big on verts, but the wife has always wanted a red convertible and I'll admit, that black top on victory red won me over quick! She's gorgeous! We have a couple pinch marks on the top already and I'm visiting the dealer tomorrow for that. Can't wait for the hour long drive over to Rockingham with the top DOWN! On a serious note though, I feel confident if there are any serious issues with the top GM is going to make it right. Before I ramble on and on, I'll close with this, when we purchased ours, I wasn't aware of the potential for the issues you'll read here, however, after seeing the car and driving it I would have still purchased the vert! Good luck with your decision and I know you'll love whichever you choose! |

I have had my 2SS/RS RJT vert since May. I have 5000 miles on her and I have not had any issues. My previous car was a 2011 1LT/RS coupe and I traded it in on the vert. I probably have the top down at least 75% of the time if not more. When or if I buy another Camaro in the future it will be another vert.

Mine was built the first week of the 2012's and she has not been back to the dealer since we got her. I have a list of little things to have looked at, but none are specifically convertible related. Go with the vert! You will not regret it! I have never thought twice about my decision...

classicrockr, if you do decide to get a Camaro of either form I'm here to help just in case you run into any troubles along the way. I hope we can add you to the Camaro family and I'm sure you'll be happy with the Coupe or Convertible (whichever you choose)!

My build date was 10 May, no problems to date except the driver's side seat back latch was binding and the radio was not recognizing the USB device. Both "problems" resolved themselves. On the minus side there is a small amount of road noise typical of a convertible. On the plus, 20 mpg combined hwy/city ain't bad for a car that has 426 horsepower.
Bottom line: I couldn't be happier. This car gets the looks and is all-around more than I hoped it would be, there's nothing else I'd rather own or drive. Simply amazing what the folks in Detroit and Oshawa have done.
