So in everyones professional experience is it worth getting the short throw shifter or would it just be more fun to continue using the granny shifter (stock)?

I'm letting mine be up to GM. If they get the code in the system before my order is pulled I'll be getting it and letting them install it. If not, then I'll probably just use the stock shifter and if it really annoys me then I'll get the Hurst down the road. The only reason I got it for my vette was the stock shifter was HORRIBLE. It would jam between gears and was not smooth at all.

I sat in the V-6, 6 speed Camaro at the Atlanta Auto Show and moved the shifter through the gears. I couldn't tell a difference between that shifter (not the Hurst) and the optional Hurst I ordered on my 02 Firehawk. Seemed pretty "short throw" on the Camaro. I doubt if I will order the Hurst- if you are going to drag race the car, the automatic is probably faster in the 1/4 anyhow!!

The stock shifter is still pretty nice (tight) I sat in the drivers seat of Thor, (Scott Settlemires CTF car) and went through the gears. It has a prety positive detent into each gear and doesn't have a lot of slop. Unless you have to have the Hurst, you shouldn't have a problem with the stock shifter...

The Stock shifter on the 4th gen was horrible imo...I went with a B&M short shifter in my 99 Z28 and loved it. Hopefully B&M will make one for the 5th gen.

I definitely think it is worth it. Some people don't. I had one in my '99. I thought it was a must and I really liked the feel. I have heard the 5th gen is not as big of a difference. I will still get it, however I won't be getting my car till the fall at the earliest so the constraint thing hopefully, won't effect me. You can always have it installed later.

Thanks everyone for your input! Well I suppose I have time to make a final decision. Mine probably won't arrive till this fall either. What a wait... :(

I pinged MGW and they will be offering a shifter for the Camaro ... had one on my 04 cobra and it was the best I have ever used (Pro 5.0 / Steeda in the past) .. I can't wait ..

The stock shifter is not bad or sloppy I'm sure, same as in my C5, its really not horrible, however the Hurst just is so much better!
