Well, after speaking with one of the dealerships, I was advise that the bolt-ons I want to do wouldn't void my PT warranty......IF I had a dyno tune from one of their recommended shops.
Now, I'm told that it's impossible for him to give this to me in writing but they assured me that If I'm dyno tuned by the shop they farm their work out to, and keep all documentation, they have great leniency with what they can do with the PT warranty. He specifically said an email tune would be out of the question though due to the further accuracy gained with hands on dyno tuning (No offense to any of the email tuners!). I didn't take that part of the conversation any further. His point was a dyno tune by their recommended shop is done by a tuner that they know is qualified, knowledgable, and won't hurt the car. He even stated a tranny tune is fine with this as well. He even stated "We are a performance friendly dealership and I'm not going to void your PT warranty for a CAI, headers, and high flows if I know it's tuned right." According to him, these are not going to make TOO much power for the PT to handle. So it looks like I will be going with a local EFI live dyno tune with dyno and street tuning. They recommended a 91 octane tune since I can only find 93 octane at one local place. He didn't think the difference, with my bolt-ons, would make much of a difference. In a blower application, he said it would be different. The tune is going to run me $450. I'm hoping to have this done by early next week. I have to say, I'm getting a bit excited! Thanks for the updates and I will probably have some more questions in regard to the tranny tuning so please bear with me.....Thanks everyone! |

I had a EFILive tune from Patrick Guerra a few months ago after my headers were installed. Patrick has a lot of experience tuning G8's. They have the same trans as ours. I love the tune and have not had any problems. PatrickG is an administrator on LS1tech.com. He is also on this site.
Good luck. Bill |

If it isn't in paper, it isn't worth much, man... but if you can get a dyno for around 400 bucks it isn't a bad deal anyways. Regardless, fingers crossed we never have to find out....

No doubt about it but at least I have a dealership close to me that will look at PT warranty issues with an open mind and objectively see past the "tune". His theory on PT warranty work does make sense and they are obviously a dealership that's not looking to void your warranty at the first given opportunity. Knowing he was the service manager, his words did give me more reassurance than a 19 y/o kid fielding phone calls.
Hopefully, I'll never have to know for sure but "mod friendly dealerships" do exist and thankfully I have one relatively close to me. Regardless, I will follow his recommendations and definitely visit his dealership if the need ever arises. |

Go on and pull the trigger. Check my mods below. I'm still not having any problems. A good tune is well worth the money. Make sure they tune the tranny.

I have 40k+ miles on my 2010. Its been tuned twice by ECS, once for bolt ons and then again for SC. It has seen about 30+ runs with bolt ons, and about 20 with supercharger. Not one problem, knock on wood... It is a daily driver so if something should go wrong I know I am footing the bill for a rebuild.:thumb up: Best pass so far....11.49@118
