1. Know how long the car was on the dealers lot.
2. Don't bet on the dealer touching the oil at all.
3. I would start looking at the oil color at 5k for sure.

Why do I say this you ask? I bought my second '10 model June of 2011. It was a January production carfrom 2010. It went straight to the dealer and never sold. 145 miles on it when I bought it but a year and a half since production. Original dealer said it was all fine...oil had been changed etc. Nopes. I highly doubt that. At 4700 I install a blower. At 5k I have nasty oil and a lifter tick. I have been using gwatney chevrolet in Jacksonville AR since I had to have an ac issue addressed at 400 miles. They are my go to now. Thank gm for gwatney. They are awesome.

Thanks for the input, everyone. So what is the consensus on synthetic? Is it worth the price? A friend of mine who was a mechanic wasn't too fond of it but I would consider it if its worthwhile.

My service mamanger at my dealer, and good Camaro folks, says 3000 and not to worry. The original oil has some breakin additives in it and he likes to get all the use out of it. But it is up to you. Alot of experts here.

Mobile 1 at 750 miles along with a K&N oil filter. The oil had a slight metal flake look to it.

"Break in additives"? I think you mean "crap". And 3000 is a loooong ways away. And yea there are a lot of experts here, a lot that have seen just how dirty the fluids are out the factory.

Changed mine at 4970. I did a hard break in and the oil came out looking perfectly fine. There was no metal flakes or anything at all. The DIC says that it's only at 30%. Car drives fine and sounds fine.

i wouldn't trust the computer to tell me when to change. most people do not change there oil before 5k on new cars. maybe a performance engine is different.

I took delivery of my camaro (ordered, patiently waited & tracked it from Oshawa to NY)

I didn't change my oil till 8,000 when the computer indicated & switched to Mobil-1 5w30
