DOES HE HAVE A CHANCE OF TAKING ME FROM A ROLL??????

THIS IS NOT STREET RACING!!!!!!!!

I ran an STi no sweat they arent much from a roll... its the launch you got to worry about but from 40, you got it easy. Just make sure your RPMs are up when you punch it... I.E. be in M mode and in 2nd gear.

There's no difference between a '10 and a '11. The STi drivetrain really hasn't changed mechanically since it came here in 2003. Same basic engine, same basic transmission, etc.

To compete with the higher end quarter mile, from a roll, and just overall top-end, they need pretty massive turbos usually, like GT35Rs, this type of car would be easy to spot with the huge front-mount intercooler, often hood-scoop delete, at that level many times running meth or nitrous. These monsters are often putting out 400awhp or more.

STI with exhaust and a tune? While it is a decent HP increase, more % wise than you'd get with a NA engine and would make you cry from a launch and pretty easily win around a track, it's not going to put it into realm of anything that's making near 400hp to the wheels.

STIs are tons of fun though, the way they claw to a turn and accelerate out of one puts a smile on your face. The gearing may suprise you if they catch it just right, but the number of shifts they have to make negates that.

I think you will have no problem since the race is starting from a roll. The top end power of your car is enough. I'd suggest manually shifting the car and start in a gear where you are already in the power band (probably 2nd).
It would be a different race if you started from a stop. The AWD STI will accelerate from you at the beginning and you will slowly pull on the car as speeds increase.

If you're racing from a roll, its important to know the L99 A6 tranny's weak spots.

Just over 50mph to 60mph or so is a weak spot for an L99 A6. It puts the A6 at a low rpm in 3rd gear (not good for a roll start).

You would be much better off starting the race at 45 mph or so or up higher around 70mph.

45 mph puts the A6 in the sweet spot of 2nd gear. Also up around 70 mph, puts the A6 in the sweet spot of 3rd gear. But down around 55- 60mph is a bad speed to start a roll race in an A6.

QFT. Although with light mods, it's a pretty minor performance hit.

I came from an STI into my SS. And unless (and maybe even with) he has a tune with those light mods, you'll probably be fine from that speed. If it was from launch, I'd say forget it.

Beware of the tune though. I did only a full turboback, uppipe and tune on mine and I gained about 60 awhp. Those stock tunes are pretty conservative.

On the plus side, he didn't do like I used to... "You want to race? Ok, you pick the time, I'll pick the road..."

Im not entirely sure you know what you are talking about.

OP my friend has the 2011 STI sedan. He only has bolt ons and a tune, ran a 12.1.

Bolt on 2011 will smoke a bolt on SS on the street and probably on the track.

Hes going to hook while you pray to hook and even if you hook well he will still probably beat you. Those cars are animals.

From a roll however youll probably edge him out.

That is from a dig with all wheel drive. It is different from a roll. Also, to get that time, he had to boost the stock turbo. What was his trap speed? Stock, they trap at 100mph. Boltons without playing with the turbo will be just be a bit better. The guys doing lower 12's are boosting 21psi with the stock turbo to get there. Stock the turbo boosts 13psi from the factory.

Any tuning you do to these cars nowadays turns the boost up, it is all in the computers.
