I'm working on one last project before Camaros proliferate the streets, and hope that you guys can share some advice.

I have two days to drive a Camaro from Detroit to Dallas, and hope to share the car with rural areas along the route that may not have had their chance to see one up close yet. I have a working route, but if you live around the areas I'll be driving through, I'd love a local perspective -- do you know of more fun roads through your state instead? Would a group of C5ers be interested in meeting at a dealer on the route... or is there a quarter-mile track nearby that we could hit?

I'm hoping to have a live streaming audiovisual feed inside the car during the drive, and will be updating you guys with coverage and a review via live multimedia microblogging on Utterli (and, by extension, Twitter). GM will also have their own separate Twitter feed.

I hope I posted this in the right place -- mods, should I post this in each regional forum instead?

I leave Detroit at Noon sharp on the 21st... can't wait to hear your ideas, and hopefully meet some of you along the way!

//Adam

Edit: Route amended just a bit. Still a work in progress.
I agree on going around Oklahoma. Missouri and Oklahoma are pretty barren for long periods/most of the way. Pretty boring drives. I did the drive from Houston to Indianapolis last sept. and Missouri was boring as hell and I've driven through Oklahoma before. The Indiana-Ohio-Tennessee-Kentucky-Arkansas-route is much better.

In Michigan, you are going to be close to two drag strips, Milan and Martin. That being said, the weather in Michigan tomorrow would be iffy -raining now and looks like more rain tomorrow.

I would be up for a meeting along the route - Michigan Chevy dealer? etc.

I looked at your route - all those back roads - will you make it to Texas in two days?

I'm in St. Louis and I'd love to see the car. I'm sure other here would as well. there is a pretty decent StL group on these boards. Any idea when you will be going through St. Louis? If I were you I'd skip 67 through StL. I'd hop on 270W and then get on 100W, aka Manchester Rd. Your current route takes you about 2 miles from my work. :cry

Primus -- how does a Chevy dealer midday Wednesday sound? Do you think we could mobilize an STL group in time?

I work in Owensville Mo(pretty close to the middle of nowhere) and could not believe your route takes you right in front of the store where I work and also on hwy 63 near Rolla within 1/4 mile of my house.My wife has a CGM 2SS/RS waiting for order to be pulled.We have not seen one in person and I will be watching you route closely as I would love to see the car.If your route changes and takes you through Cuba Mo,I can reccomend Missouri Hick BBQ they also have murals painted on alot of the buildings in the town.There is also a section of the original concrete divided highway between Rolla and St Robert at the hwy J exit that was bypassed by I-44 but kept in service.I ride the cycle there alot,it's like going back in time and most times there is not another car on the road with you.Have a great trip and keep us posted hopefully I can get a look at your ride

The middle of Oklahoma can be boring, but I seem to recall the area bordering Arkansas was nice. I didn't mind some of the state highways around Poteau and the drive through the Arkansas Ozarks near Fort Smith to get there was breathtaking. I drove up to the top of Poteau's "World's Tallest Hill" which was basically a 1 1/2 lane country road with several hairpin turns and steep incline that necessitated 1st gear through the whole thing

If you decide to go farther south through Indiana, the southern third of the state has some good hilly drives. Corydon Pike on SR 62 between New Albany and Edwardsville has a fun twisty section with a surprising (for the area) change in elevation. SR 160 between Henryville and Salem is also a good drive...probably a better drive than the aforementioned SR 62. There's a scenic route from Madison, IN to Louisville, KY that uses US 421 to KY-42 that's a good drive as well.

We can certainly try. The Chevy Dealer I ordered mine from is right off of I-270 @ Olive Blvd (Weber Chevrolet). It's very centrally located in the St. Louis area. I can give them a call if you like and see if we can arrange something.

So would sidetracking to Kalamazoo be out of the question, or is it doable? Could make a stop at Bells Brewery like 3 did on his trip out to this side of the state. It is Oberon season after all..
