If you're not worried about mileage and noise is an issue. Gears can really improve the seat of the pants feel. You'll have to either tune the car to correct the speedo or I hear there is also a device that you can splice into your wiring. But I haven't looked into that myself.

I've read countless articles and watched countless reviews and races about these two cars, and I'm sorry it's a 50/50 battle. I have not seen either car dominate the other in any performance catagory! And if you read that the mustang is faster in one magazine, you will read the camaro is faster in another? Pick the one that looks the best..............................The Camaro
I tend to agree with you but you are talking 1/4 race. When you put these two cars on a track with turns, stocvk for stock, the SS, sadly, gets left behind 100% of the time.

Yes. Seems like by 1/4 mile the SS is about even. But out of the shoot the Mustang is fast. It's the out of the shoot that I want to even up.

the '13 GT500 will cost at least 60K. ZL1 is 55K.

BUT 55k and 60k is basically the same money if youre going to spend funds at that level. 60k for 650hp. 55k for 580hp.

The car feels like it's more responsive. Kinda like comparing what you would feel if you drove an old MG versus a Suburban. Nothing that drastic but it's that sort of thing. The Camaro is more "planted" on the ground. You step on the gas and it goes in a straight line. You step on the gas in a Mustang and you need to be ready for which direction you'll start off in because it won't be straight.

Just asking.........seems strange live axles in the rear and feeling it in the seat of your pants......and all.

It may also be the best tool (no pun intended) in your arsonal when explaining to your gal......why you could never bend over on your beliefs about the advantages of owning and driving a new Camaro.

I am a Chevy guy at heart but after driving the 5.0 and the SS back to back I was really disappointed. The 5.0 was much more nimble and 1st gear was way better. I just can't warm up to the idea of buying a 5.0 over a 6.2. There is only 300 lb difference in the cars so I guess I am not sure why the 6.2 is so doggy compared to the the 5.0. Is it detuned that much?

Anyway, REALLY want to find an excuse to get the SS. Just want to be know what you guys are doing to make it competetive but also keeping it in the "Female Daily Driver Friendly" category. Meaning I am not sure she will be thrilled about waking up the neighbors every morning with a cam and loud exhaust. Any other ideas?

Thanks!

First of all there is "no win" in power games. Cut to the chase, YOUR WIFE WANTS A CAR! That's it. She is holding you and your car needs hostage out of an apparent need to control. She must feel a bit inferior to you to put you in that position, so empower her to get HER car. Put her behind the wheel and quit trying to make decisions for her, that will reinforce her behavior. Keep your mouth shut and write the check! OR, she may be trying to reinforce your "car" dominance not trying to step on your turf. Either way, empower her to get her car and she will empower you to get yours. And have a great evening!

Your signature offers a bit of insight .......... there is obviously a ton of dichotomy between it and your suggestions. The O.P may never know how far he can go holding out on a new Chevrolet first if he takes it. lmao

This....to be honest is the right answer. Explain the pros and cons of both cars to her and let her decide which car is best for her. In the end you will be happier if she is happy with her car and doesn't feel like you forced her into a specific car

You can certainly go a long way towards that goal. Get an SS with a stick, get rid of the "trash cans" they put on for an exhaust and get you some axle backs or cat backs, get rid of the stock wheels (they weigh an unbelievable amount), and stiffen the suspension. Those kind of things would get you a more nimble feel and the new exhaust would get you the sound.
