I wouldnt care unless there is a major upgrade that makes the customers look dumb for buying the first one.

Been there, done that, with the SGM Special Edition in 2010. Sure I was pissed I didn't wait to see if they would continue that color. I would gotten into a SS in SGM and would be pissed that they came out with the ZL1. So who cares buy what you want or can afford. They will always come out with something bigger and badder. I myself would be sad if they didn't come out with a Snake Killer! All in all I'm happy I got what I have right now and am looking toward the future when a ZL1 is right for me.

I would be very surprised if there was a hp bump in 2013. There are likely emission durability requirements that would require "some" work before a significant power bump could be commercialized. I do not believe they can just "bump" it without these types of consideration.

Also, I believe GM is convinced that the ZL1 is going to outperform the new GT500 as is so why would they do this?

I could see some changes in the colors or some small changes in performance and weight reduction, but if they make the ZL1 available in the same class as the Z06, GM would be dipping into those sales. Let’s face it; the ZL1 is already on the door step of supper car territory. I think if changes to the ZL1 are in weight reduction that would take a lot of engineering cost and exotic lightweight materials, the price for the ZL1 would go up or GM would have to take the loss in profits..I don’t see that happening from a business stand point..

Well I don't think anyone will feel happy, unless they waited.

There a numerous cases of improved performance in the 2nd model year.

Chevrolet SSR - launched with 5.3L got the 6.0L in the next year.

Chevrolet Z06 - launched with 380 and the next year got 400 HP

Chevrolet Cobalt SS - launched with SC engine at 200 and a year or two later 2.0 Turbo at 260 HP.

In most cases it takes a long time to get an entirely new car out. As much as it seems to be just a Camaro with an LSA under the hood, the ZL1 has a LOT of new parts that require a huge amount of resources to engineer, validate and put into production. When the car is launched, then an idea or two that couldn't be put in the 2012 MY due to time and resource constraints just might get looked at and even approved for the 2013. You just never know.

Because of the 13 vert already releasing its numbers, there definitely wouldn't be a performance bump. It would be a first if so. There may be a possible "track pack" which would include software tuning and a pully, but not anything straight from the factory.

If you think the 13 will have more of what you want for the same cost, it's simple.

WAIT.

Then it will be the 14 ..... at some point you will never enjoy the ownership of any of them.

I still have my Compaqq 386 PC around somewhere. It works, I don't complain that my iMac is so much better.

I voted "doesn't matter" since the convertible will be a 2013 model. With the late intro of the 2012 coupe, I don't see much of a change coming. Maybe an additional colour but that's probably it.

How about the suckers that bought a 2010 Mustang... GT or V6. I'd be pretty upset but I don't see a big increase in the ZL1 for MY13.

Honestly, I would not be surprised if there were improvements made to the 2013 ZL1, in any way, shape or form. I anticipate that happening. It's an automotive arms race. The Big Three are racing to the finish line, wherever that is. Chevy strives to beat Ford, and visa versa. I have a 2012 ZL1 on order. If they bump it up 50 horsepower for example in 2013 and sweaten up the pot by offering some other package upgrade for example, I will not be upset or bothered at all. As the 2012 ZL1 stands, it's way much more car than I can legally use. As Chevy call it...."barely street legal". I would offer a suggestion for those waiting to see numbers and results before they purchase one of these megaton horspepower juggernauts as currently available from Michigan. Don't wait too long, the improvements will keep coming until the CAFE sunami hits. That will be the big game changer.

This situation is one of the reasons why I tend not to buy the first year of any car. It is common knowledge to expect that manufacturers will make upgrades after each year. It remains to be seen whether there will be a drastic power change this soon.

However, if the '13 GT proves to be significantly better in overall performance, I cannot see why gm would not consider a power/performance increase. It doensn't make a lot of sense for Chevy to make a big splash in an announcement, only to get outclassed by a main competitor in less than a year's time. Its a downfall, unfortunately, in the performance class. To stay in the game, a car has to make improvements because the competition gets better every year.
