My guess is that its not an issue of technical ability, i think its part of the onstar brand. I have yet to see an onstar antenna anything other than black. I actually forgot about the antenna until now. That was BIG deal around here at first, but I tend to get too drawn to the body lines, and beautiful shape of the car

But, on a serious note, I like the fact that the shark fin is black. If it was body color, on the brighter colors like Rally Yellow, Victory Red, and SIM, it would stick out

No, I was making a little "Ford Model T" joke, but I meant what I said. You couldn't get body colored-roof or mirrors on a Z28, until (I think) the 1995 model year. All '93 and '94 Z28s came with the black roof & mirrors. The base V6 cars had body colored roof & mirrors.

Why would they want to equate Onstar with looking cheap, that's makes no sense at all.

If painting the antenna is cheap, then how come they come painted on all Cadillacs??? If you didnt notice it, its because it obviously blends in. Its not hard to paint one. If its the same one that is on Chevy trucks or Cadillacs, you could just order one and take it to a body shop and have them paint it before the car even gets here and snap it on. Simple!

Hate to extend this thread, but I did think of a question... is the antenna a flat, unpainted black? Or is it a glossy painted/clearcoated black? I hate unpainted, flat black trim on cars (see Mustang side mirrors for example), it always ages really fast in the sun and ends up looking gray.

How much do you think it would be to get it painted CGM at the dealership?
and would it look good?
i realllly like the ones that are painted, it gives that car a much more finished look.
