Depends how you look at it. The camaro lost that race when lookin at the finish line. The Camaro did win though if you go strictly off of ET, which does not include the reaction times.

as said before

slicks/drag radials get sticky when you heat them up

street tires actually get a slimey if you do a big burnout

before i got my drag radials, i use to just drive around the water box and give it just a quick hit to knock the rocks and gravel off the tires

Street tires can also get little balls of rubber caught between the treads, which can act like ball bearings at the start. A very short burnout with street tires is all you need to clean them off and get a little heat in them. And like one poster said don't go through the water.
