Talked to my dealer today and there is one on the showroom floor with a cover on it. GM specific instructions. They are doing what they have been asked to do and I am totally cool with it. They were also asked to not sell it right away so folks could actually look at it. They will let you drive it but only in their rather large car lot, not on the actual street.

If they want to excite people just give us our cars so that we can drive them on the road and answer questions for people. Most people on this site know more about the Camaro than the average salesperson anyway. And we can direct them to the nearest dealer too......

In Connecticut every dealer that I visited has already sold the Camaro that they were supposed to have for the May 6th unveiling.

So I ask the salesguy whats up with that? And he says they are keeping it covered until the may6th release. I told him that was the dumbest thing I ever heard and that there are plenty of dealers showing their cars and even some test drives being allowed. I got a little frustrated and it no doubt didnt help my chances of them pulling back the cover, but I was pissed!

How can you sell a car that you wont let people see?

Anybody else ever heard of this? I havent seen any posts about that?
What dealer in SoCal...LA area, San Diego, Where???

Here in lovely las vegas, sin city the capital of shady deals and even more than shady dealers I went to my local chev dealer, just down the street, they got a new rs 2ss in, red, you could see it, sit in it, even make cool noises as you imagined driving it, because you cant drive it. Why, they have it for sale sort of for 10K over msrp of 40K. Now mind you its a nice car, not my fav color but nice, a bit spartan in the inside, but its a go car not a sit and not think car like my Audi s6. I bought a 67 off the show room floor a few thousand years ago so I wanted to duplicate that moment. But the dealer ruined that, 10K over, for way, in this day and time who is going to pay that amount, no bank will finance that amount you have to come out of pocket the 10K at least and probably more. SO I wrote the dealer and email and I was impressed the sales manager called, he actually listened to what I had to say. He feels there will be lots of camaros out there to buy soon, GM needs this and so does the dealer. I doubt there will be that many people who want a camaro but there will be some. Bottom line is this it seems like dealers love to take advantage of emotions, I decided to heck with them, soon they will have too many, no buyers to speak of and they will be begging to sell them, I will wait. Meanwhile the idea of the camaro might be better than the real thing. Going to drive a challenger tonight, seems that Chrysler is having some problems of their own, hmm interesting.
I think car should be sold by the manufacture and dealers just deliver what you bought and already agreed to pay for. Dealers in todays world offer little or no more than a petting farm. Service is important,. not the sales effort. People are not stupid, and we know what we want and are capable of ordering what we want on the web, dealers are no longer needed.
Just my humble thoughts. No intention to upset any dealers who read this if they read this.

I called all the dealers in my area and found one 100 miles away and he said they had a black one. So we drove down there to see it. When we got there it was covered! They told me they weren't suppose to uncover it! But since we had driven so far they uncovered it for us. Way cool! First one I had seen and sat in love it! I told the salesman I would have ordered from him if they weren't charging 5K over MSRP

I'll be so glad when all this pomp and circumstance is done on May 6th so we can get to regular business as usual (well hopefully).

This covered Camaro stuff is so much and getting more rediculous every day. Spare us the idiocy, work out the kinks and deliver our cars!

One dealer that I know of here has theirs under cover as well and the one I ordered through has theirs hidden in the back! Two other dealers close by though have theirs out for viewing and one is a 2SS.

Update

Went to cruise night tonight in Santa Paula, CA and there was a new Camaro there! It was a dealer car V6 2LT and yellow. I got to sit in it and was very happy with the way it felt. The seats are very comfortable and the lower vision out the windows didnt bother me. I also sat in the passenger seat and thought the dash looked good. A little plain, but nice.

A big thank you to Santa Paula Chevrolet for bringing it out for everyone to see!

VIN number 2866 if anyone is curious.

They are a very small dealer and had an allotment of 12 cars and they are all sold.

My dealer in Gretna, Louisiana just put theirs out on Tuesday. Its a Black 1LT with Grey interior, no RS package, and Sunroof. They did not have a cover on it and I went right over and hopped right on in. Its nice to have finally seen/sat on one.

I now wait patiently for my new 1SS.......
Ok, wheres my car!
