I know what you mean.....its on the left on my Nissan Titan, and when I use my dads Chevy I get all confused. I do prefer the left side myself.

Auto trans. Both hands on the wheel with thumbs for radio, cruise controls and index fingers on the paddle shifters.

As taught at Spring Mountain, you're not supposed to drive with your hand resting on the shifter. After a shift, your hand should always return to the proper driving position on the steering wheel.

How long will it take to see someone texting in a 2010? Or turning in a intersection while on the phone to ear.

But what's the point if you drive a manual trans and you have your right hand on the shifter?

Go for the Automatic. Let the computer decide the most efficient gear to be in to travel at your desired speed

Manual cruise control? Do you start red-lining if you hit a steep hill?
I had a car with manual and cruise control. Only problem was in the mountains and the cruise kicked off when the engine started bogging down.

I'm used to the radio controls on my right. In the wifes Sky they are almost pointless because you are so close to the radio anyway as far as volume goes.

I only posted this to see if this bothered others besides me. I am not whinning so f'up. I will suck it up and take it like a man to get my Camaro, but it seems so obvious to me that it is a matter of poor thinking.

Besides, Some of you are missing the point. If your right hand is free to use the stereo steering wheel controls than you can just use your right hand on the actual stereo.

I currently own two 5 speed manuals, a Sky Redline and a Honda CR-V that I drive to work. The Honda is on the left and I can adjust the stereo in NY City Bumper to Bumper traffic, when it is not as easy to remove your right hand from the shifter. With the SKY I always use the controls on the front of the stereo because if I have to wait for the right hand to free up, I might as well got to the source.

BTW: Honda, Nissan, Infiniti, VW, Subaru, Toyota and many others have the stereo controls on the left.

That's the beautiful thing about an automatic transmission with cruise control... it'll down-shift for you so you maintain a constant speed.

I get what the OP is saying, it's what he's use to. It won't matter to me and fine with it on the right side.

When they were designing what side to put the controls on, you missed the memo and the meeting.

Did we ever get an answer as to why GM did this?

I keep missing this point. "Did this"? Did what? There is no correct or incorrect side as many of you have been posting for months. There is just the side it's on. Mercedes-Benz - Right Hand Side. BMW - Right Hand Side. Toyota - Left Hand Side. Honda - Left Hand Side. See a patern........

Also, I understand that you aren't used to where the volume controls are. If you were a GM driver your whole life you would be used to the cruise on the left side. Used to be on the stalk for years. I still like to drive the few cars we have left that have the cruise on the stalk, Corvette being one of them. For me, I'm not sure I would need to be shifting a manual trans and changing my volume at the same time. And as for the simple reach theory, then you wouldn't need the steering wheel controls. Might be why it is on the left on the cars you are used to. To make it seem like it's a long reach. The reach to the radio is the same whether or not the steering wheel control is on the left or right. So it is just getting used to it. For me, driving the Camaro was very intuitive. If you aren't used to driving GM cars, that may not be the case.
