How many miles did you get out of it? Looks like you had "safe" horsepower in the mid five hundreds.

It was a L99 that we converted to a LS3. 22,000 miles. 640 HP at the flywheel.

That's why I plan to go straight to a forged motor. It's just deciding on staying 378 or go up 427. But in due time I am not about to rush into things like I did with my last car and end up buying parts just to replace with better parts later.

Almost 3 years at 150% stock power seems like a bunch of borrowed time.
Hopefully you were counting on an upgrade soon. Sorry to see it's quite severe though.

I'm puzzled by the responses that say you got lucky to get 22,000 miles out of it. I could see the extra power taking a toll on the transmission, the u-joints, and other parts and maybe the engine starting to burn oil or extra bearing wear. But this looks like a one cylinder was running really lean under heavy load or had a severe knock or some other problem that destroyed it suddenly. Has anybody, like maybe the folks who did the work, given you an opinion on what caused that one piston to totally blow out?
