CarMax... great way to go. Take your car in, they will appraise it, and make you an offer. The offer is good for seven days. You don't need to buy a car from them... they will simply pay you cash money for your car.
With that appraisal they give you, you can then spend the next few days deciding if you want to go to the trouble of a private sale, or, take that appraisal to dealers, and when negotiating trade- in value, you can show them that CarMax has offered you $X dollars for the car... and they can either beat it or lose it. It's a GREAT negotiation tool. CarMax appraisals are free, they're fair (they offered me more than $1000 OVER what I had hoped to get for my trade-in, based upon pretty decent Blue- Booking research on my own...), and they are no obligation. I have also found them to be very low pressure, too... but that, I'm sure, depends on the dealership and the individual working with you. |
