Dealer cannot do it, we tried at the dealer level, it is locked from Dealer tampering, you must get the new VCI from GM and they will give a code that is good for 24 hours to load into the vehicle.

The standard fusebox and relays are all there from the factory, so all that is needed is the front harness, switch and lights and bezels. Remember, it may be a while before GM gets the 2012 programming out, I know people in engineering and was able to get a VCI built for my car to see if it would work, it does and now they still have to certify it. 2010 and 2011 are available. They will charge approx 50-100 bucks for a new VCI. They can also add 20" or 21" tires to the VCI for proper braking and speedo calibration.
Wow! Great info! I will wait to get this completely done by the dealer until I get a hold of all the parts AND some 20" beauties.

The dealer still has to load it, it is loaded through GDS, the new global programming and diagnostics GM is utilizing. There is a diagnostic unit attached to the car and is either hard wired or wireless to a computer that is connected to GM Global.

The new Global Architecture electrical systems do not allow controller swaps between vehicles. Swapping ECM’s or other modules (including Radio, BCM, EBCM, SDM, TCM, ECC (HVAC), EPS, HPCM, VCIM & IPC) on vehicles with the new Global Architecture electrical system will result in damaging both controllers (A NO START CONDITION WILL OCCUR ON BOTH VEHICLES IF THESE MODULES ARE SWAPPED) due to the new vehicle security code protocol (environment) starting with the 2010 MY GDS applications.

The GM Global Diagnostic System 2 (GDS 2), will build on the original GDS application to provide an improved user interface for quick and simple data acquisition. GDS 2 will take the place of the original GDS and the Tech 2® on certain vehicles when communicating and diagnosing vehicle on-board electrical systems.

GDS 2 will offer an improved snapshot, stored data feature when compared to the older technology. When viewing module data, all diagnostic data will be saved in the vehicle session history for later viewing. This will eliminate the possibility of not starting a snapshot recording at the correct time.

The system works with simple menu driven commands similar to the original GDS. This new diagnostic tool platform and software will be required for use with all GM Global Architecture (Global A) vehicles including the Chevrolet Camaro, Equinox, Cruze, Orlando (Canada), Sonic and Volt, Buick LaCrosse, Regal and Verano, GMC Terrain and the Cadillac SRX . These vehicles will no longer permit Tech 2® communication for diagnostic purposes. All other vehicles will continue to use the Tech2.

While steps have been taken to ensure a smooth launch of the GDS 2 platform, there is still a need for dealer and technician preparation. Dealers must ensure that their current IT infrastructure meets the GM guideline required for Techline applications. Technicians will want to complete the following Global A related training:
• View updated specifications at www.gmdesolutions.com. In Canada, on GM GlobalConnect in the Service Library under "Tools and Processes and Equipment."
• Changes include a minimum of 2GB of RAM, use of the Intel Core family of processors and validation of Windows 7 Professional 32 or 64 bit Operating System.
• Review specifications for a mobile computing device; either a laptop or a tablet PC, for use when performing diagnostic procedures on a "road test". A list of Techline approved devices is available at www.gmdesolutions.com. Dealers in Canada should look on GM GlobalConnect in the Service Library under "Tools and Processes and Equipment."
• A video course covering the use of GDS 2 for diagnostics (#16048.28D), is available for the U.S. through www.gmtraining.com, and in Canada at www.gmprocanada.com.
GM Canada will re-release the GDS Certification class course #16039.16H - updated to cover GDS 2. Please note that this course will be equivalent to the prior GDS Certification class.

Delivery of the GDS 2 application will be executed through TIS2WEB. Click on the GDS 2 icon on the TIS2WEB Home page. The Start GDS 2 button will initiate the application to download and install GDS 2 on a shop PC.
• Download and installation time will be dependent upon the Internet bandwidth available during the download process.
• The application will need to be loaded on each shop PC individually.
• Once the initial application installation is complete, GDS 2 will run in either a standalone mode when launched from the PC Desktop icon or from TIS2WEB, much the same as GDS. Security will require each user ID to launch GDS 2 from TIS2WEB at least once every 7 days.

It looks like I'll be building a harness with relays. I will need to find the proper P13W connectors. I'll see if Ofer can tell me where to get them.
