I'm putting 32k down on the ZL1 when it gets here, basically what I got for my SS, since it was paid off.

I put a thousand down to get the first allocation at my dealership. Same for their convertible. Its just to make sure that you are serious and that they should help you and not someone more serious.

I put down a $5,000 deposit back in November when I originally ordered the car. I then put another $10,000 down by choice. $20,000 seems awful high

Your 1K down would have been a deposit... at the time of actual purchase this is normally applied as down payment, but as others have said... it's entirely up to the bank you are financing with if a deposit is required and how much.

I guess we are still not sure if the OP is talking about money down for ordering or financing. Two very different animals. Some of us have had our cars on order for over 6 months. Very good deal for the dealership to use your money for free for 6 months. I put 0 down for my first order (an allocation that never got picked up) and $5K for the order that I finally did secure - which was already at 3000. I am about 300 miles from that dealer and he had no idea who I was, so I fully understand that he wanted a show faith from me, as a totlal stranger to him.

I put $0 down back in November my dealer is awesome. Never asked me for a deposit for the ZL1 or the 2010SS. No over the price sticker either. Yes my ZL1 is built vin#1499 and on it's way to the dealer.
Dealer never even asks me how I am going to pay for the car. Paid cash for 2010SS.

Perhaps. Banks don't generally ask for 35% down though. If one's credit is that bad they should pass on the deal.

I'm talking about down payments for finance not to reserve. I have the income and the credit score but supposedly the banks see the ZL1 as an exotic and because I'm 24 they want some assurance. I thinks it's bs personally.
