I'm pretty much in the same boat as you, 744-800 credit score depending on which service you check with and only 24 years old. Your actually looking at the same car I ordered so depending on your sales tax your final price is going to be in the 39,000's.

Anyways with the down payment you're looking to put down your monthly payments would be around $500 a month on a 60 month loan at 3.9% (I've read thats what you can get through PENfed if you're in the service.) I'm assuming your part time job will take care of your monthly payment and you'll have $1100 of disposable income every month. Not bad.

I got sick of always being so fiscally responsible to be honest haha. An american 24 year old male isn't meant to be driving around in a '99 Toyota Camry. Besides, paying off a loan will look good on my credit history. I went from ordering the 1ss, to the 1ss with the RS package, to just saying screw it you only live once and getting the 2SS/RS.

You need to look at your budget and crunch the numbers. Just don't push it to where you have the car and no spending cash.

From a budget perspective I would said "denied" if we where playing the Suzie Ormann game. lol

But from a heart and life experiance game I would say approved because of course you deserve a new car having served your country.

If I where you I would buy a used sports car and keep half of your bank cash in the bank, the other half paying off a 24-36 month used car loan to build your FICO score up. Then at 25 get the Camaro.

Good luck on your choice.

I think you could handle it especially if you get a part time job to supplement your GI Bill. Even at 24 you have to be concerned about insurance costs. My 18 year old son is going to be paying 340 a month on a Dodge Caliber! I am going to have to keep the 99 grand am and insure him against that and put myself as the driver on the Caliber to make it affordable. I shudder to know what the insurance rate is on a Camaro for him!

I think you should go for it! Get your sports car before your married =)

I'm not in the same situation, but I'm deciding what to get myself. I'm 32, my credit is crap, but I just recently paid off all my outstanding debt and bought a house, and drive a sht-box. I think I can put down about $5k on a 1LT and be able to afford everything. Its either pay $18k for a new Corolla, or $26 on a Camaro...

This will be my third camaro purchase and the last 2 were v8 . The v6's sucked they had no power at all. Things have all changed my friend. The 2ss is a sweet car no doubt about it but before u buy this car take a serious look at the v6. To many it has lots of power and at much cheaper insurance, gas etc. If this was the mustang or challenger forums i would not advise this but this motor really is nice. Take your time try both models out then make your decision. Dont base it on past history of this car or what u read on the net and magazine's . At the end of the day u gota love it and pay for it not us. Good luck.

Thank you for your service. Gopher it as long as you can comfortably afford $600-650/mo. for payment, gas, and insurance. I would not mod the car until the 3/36 warranty expired. No reason to risk a warranty claim denial, i.e. limit your exposure to liability.

My son is active duty, 22, three years of service. His car purchase was very similar to the situation you are considering. His EAOS is not until 2014, if then.

After reading the original post, I have to ask, what is the issue? You seem to have the money and living with mom will only support that. Seems like a silly question if you ask me. The question you need to ask is this: How bad do you want the car? no one on here can answer that for you.

where is home for you? depending on where you live it will depend on your payments for the new post 9/11 gi bill that starts this year. I am in san diego my gi bill payments for full time student is roughly around 1850 per month. If i was working a part time job had 15k in the bank and was putting half down as a down payment. I would personally get one.

Get the SS/RS

I think someone else mentioned this...
you better call and get a rate on your car insurance.
It may be high because of your age.

I was quoted $73 a month, but I am 39.

Best Of Luck ~

Thank you so much for serving our country :flag1:

Take a look at 03 and 04 Z 06 Vettes. The market for used is in the tank and you can get a very low mileage car for 25k or less. Insurance will be at or lower than the Camaro, it gets 30 mpg on the highway and you get all the performance. At the end of the day you have a great car and you pocket over 10 grand.
