Ughhhhhhh...

I'm guessing that some will want Black over Gray... just find someone to order the exposed and pay them 600 bucks to swap...

You bought an exposed carbon fiber hood for $1500? Carbon fiber and exposed carbon fiber aren't the same thing. However, the price for the insert is ridiculous.

So why aren't they the same thing... one is painted a color and cleared and the other is just cleared...

exposeed carbon fiber is harder to produce since the fabric needs to be arranged perfectly... and you need a UV resistant resin. the painted one could also be made from a different fabric that is cheaper since you dont have to worry about aestetics...

lots of reasons

Yeah this was four years ago but they were actually pretty cheap for the firebird

All good info, but my question was about Exposed CF and painted CF not being the same thing.

To me they are exactly the same except one is painted and the other cleared, which as you mention is harder to do.. Hence the $600 up-charge.

Why don't you try and barter for one? There was a guy looking for the Triple black ZL1 but all he could find was the Exposed CF when he wanted the painted CF. BTW the painted CF is more rare, I'd keep it if I was you. It's not even an option on the 2013's the last I heard.
