My main goal is to have brighter Halos, like the BMW, but diffused. So is it possible to mount the LED Halos from AAC or anyone else behind the stock RS Light tube?
My problem is the LED ones on the market have too big and spaced out LEDS so you can see each individual one, I want it diffused and smooth, like the BMW. Has anyone tried it? Would it still be bright after it was behind the light tube? Also, if adding LED halos wont work, how do the BMWs work, and can I retro fit whatever light or power source makes them so bright on my car? Thanks guys! |

Yes, a lot of people have done this mod. Myself included when I had my AAC halos. Though if you get AAC's colorshift 2.0 halos you can't see the individual LEDs. They are crazy bright, even on a camera it looks diffused and smooth.

Thanks, Is it the same basic steps involved, you just put them behind instead of in fornt, or is there something extra to do

I MAY be wrong but I think that includes cutting the light tube. I'm sure 2SSRS/Ofer can tell you a way to wire them into the factory wiring so that they work like factory but are much brighter.
The BMW halos (or angel eyes as they call them) are a bit more complex (or more simple, depending on how you see it) than the RS halos. In the BMW, the stock halo is lit using a halogen bulb. which is why they appear yellowish. The difference is that they don't have to tear apart the headlight to put a ring behind a diffuser. BMW made it so that it is just like changing any other bulb, and for good reason, its a halogen. Just as we switch our fog lights to plasma, they change their halo bulbs to bright white leds. SO our solution isn't as easy as replacing a bulb, unfortunatly. Good luck, I'm Sure AAC or FlashTech can walk you through something.

I have no question about your quality, and love the looks, its not your product specifically, its just LEDs, I know you have the tightest led rings, but for me being super picky, its still not 100% as tight as I would like it. Which may not even be possible, I just dont want to be able to see the individual LEDs even an inch away. Again, its not you, just LEDs in general. But putting behind the stock pipe is perfect! |

you could always swap out the OEM LED with an RGB LED and wire in a controller. depending on the brightness level your looking for will dictate the lumen/Watt level to get. you'd want at least a 1W RGB LED. there are some threads running around here with modifying the stock LED already, just not sure where. good luck

The only problem with the stock system is that it isnt bright because the LED's dont aim outward, they aim down and up in the housing. The reason Audi and BMW have such bright lights that you can see in the daylight, is because they aim outward. A flashlight pointed at your eye is much brighter than one pointed down on the ground, even if its right in front of you.
But, my issue was the individual LEDs being visible, and AAC solved it, just put it behind the stock light pipe/halo ring |

FWIW, when I installed my 2.0 rings, I didn't have enough space in there for the factory tube to fit back in. There just wasn't clearance for it when I reassembled it. Also, FWIW, every Camaro with the 2.0 I have seen in person has not had the tube in the headlight either, all saying they couldn't get them to fit.
AAC said their installer has done it, and I've read a couple of others on the forum have done it. The video shows them in there too, but then there were some slight problems that I had with that video, such as "lightly bevel". I had to do a lot more than that to get my rings to sit flush. Anyway, I've just never seen it (in person). BUT, don't let this deter you from getting them. I love having them, I would buy them again, and to be completely honest, it looks just fine without the defuser. |
