The Vett's wheels look tiny compared to the Camaro's.

I do this all the time. And it's happened to me on occasion too. It's safety in numbers:
I'm one of those people that parks as far away from the door as possible. I worked hard to get this car (the first new car in my life). And this place is rife with inconsiderate a**h***s that think nothing of whanging their Subaru door into the side of my car. In some situations of smaller size lots, I've had no choice but to park among the masses. And almost every damn time, I find a new ding!
In lots where spaces are limited, I'll often find a nice car (like a Vette) parked away from the store for the same obvious reason that I do it. I'll actually park next to the car knowing that at least he or she understands that I won't whack their car, and I don't have to worry that they will whack me. In that respect, it becomes a mutual defense for at least one side of our cars. You'll notice this unwritten law in effect wherever nice cars are gathered for an automotive event. In the parking lot of a hotel, for instance, all the nice cars will be parked together, sequestered from all the daily grocery-getters. Even though the owners may not know each other. Sometimes, people will even purposely park the passenger sides close together to maximize the distance from encroaching minivans on the outside. (If you have a passenger, the driver can always back the car out before opening the door.)
So think of it as a form of unspoken trust and respect.
Now if you come out and find yourself parked nose-to-nose with a Mustang; that's intimidation!
I know, because I've done it!

Its not just a chevy thing...its a "nice car" thing...e with nice cars like to protect them...ive had many "show and shine" type cars and this happens alot! u will come out and find a nice mercedes or a BMW or the like...and i love that...we are both protecting our cars from the parking lot hazards...safety in numbers eh!

Definately a respect thing. I was the only car in a couple of hundred space lot one time (the Bass Pro Foxboro car show lot) and a 4th Gen parked right next to me.

Before the Parking Police show up. it wasn't intentional that I was not between the lines.

This happens to me all the time. I go out of my way to park in the back forty so nobody dings my door again which costs me to repair and then I walk out to see that someone went just as far out of their way to thwart my plan.

You're right about that: If it's a nice car, they're doing the same thing as you.
If it's a beater, they're making a smart alec statement that they think you're an arrogant bastard that needs to be put in his place.
Obviously they don't know what it's like to work hard for something, and want keep it nice.

That was definitely a respect thing! No doubt about that.

Either way, the glass is still 100% filled with fluid.

I think those Vettes have 17"s in the front and 18"s in the back or something.
