I'm so sorry! I just read your post with the pics. It looks like it is rubbing on that joint. Is there a rough edge on that?

Haven't had time to fully investigate, but nothing "jumps out". Will take a closer look and see if there is anything that is rubbing/pinching and see if something can be done. Quit a bit of damage already though.

So does your new top rub against the back deck when driving like the old one?

I'd have to have to have someone in the back seat to confirm but knowing how far it is from the trim when down I would say no. Plus there are no marks evident yet.

Keep us posted on that item. My original top is fine except this one issue. I refuse to take the extra time to put on my tonneau cover since it is not supposed to be required. Like you said, I am paying for it as the marks where it flaps against the back are getting worse and will eventually fray. I've given up on freaking out about this and just accept it. I will file a warranty claim at about 2.5 years after ownership and get my new top then. Hopefully GM will have a better fix by then!

As SStoked said, running without the tonneau cover risks premature top failure or in my case the top fraying where the top rubs the back weatherstrip moulding. I took the car to a dealer close to work (not the original selling dealer) out of convenience and showed him the damage. I got a call back from them after looking into it and said that they will be replacing my top with a retro-fit top. I saw a ZL-1 convertible in the showroom that had at least a 1/2-1" clearance all around the back of the folded top so hopefully this is what I'll get. I'm at 33,667 KMs, out of a 36,000 bumper-to-bumper warranty. The service rep says it will take a couple of days to install once they get it.

Btw, the dealer wants $74,499.99 for the Silver Auto ZL-1 vert.

Thanks Sinister. I only have 9,500 miles on my vert, but I too would be taking it in if I were at your mileage. My marks will be frays in just a matter of time. I refuse to have to put on my tonneau cover as it was never designed to be a required item for top down driving and is a pain in the rear to do. Some think nothing of it, but I want to simply twist the handle and push the button. It should be that simple.

It's a leap of faith to start this process. You NEED to make sure they have experience successfully doing this job AT THE DEALERSHIP or are getting a trained GM field engineer. The amount of detail and step by step instructions that have to be followed to perform this job is a lot to ask just any tech to complete without errors. The facebook group has the instructions! Check them out...https://www.facebook.com/groups/2269...2634746457804/

Just read the new top install instructions. Holy crap! That's no joke on the difficulty. I am not going to be somebody's guinea pig. When I get my top replaced, I will travel to a dealer with some experience in these new tops. Likely the one Drago used in Orlando. Wow..

How GM has not recalled these tops I have no idea.

Well, it was fine during last summer. The only minor issue I had was the rubber clips that hang the water bag from the sheet metal split between the "wet" and "dry" side of the car interior. The rubber clips were being pulled slightly when the top was put down. The Camaro/Corvette technician at my dealership put some metal clips over the rubber clips to hold them in place better. I can't get a picture now since my car is still in storage.
