more spark in DFCO entry/exit means less pop...less spark, more pop.

If a turbo car pops excessively on decel then you are probably gonna have issues with it. This could cause issues with the turbo/waste gate operation if it is too much. Of course, if a turbo car is popping, it's probably from unburnt fuel in the exhaust or not enough fuel. Neither of which can be good to a turbo car. This is probably also the reason I don't like my car to pop when I let off the gas...

If you don't want it , put the clutch pedal to the floor. If you want it, then engine brake. Cats/no cats, it's still there. I like it. It will even happen after a 5k rev with clutch pedal on the floor.

ALL tuned EVOs pop. STIs, same thing. The popping has NO harm at all on the turbo. That's what a wastegate is for. Turbos only break from two things. Overboosting and other parts failing due to overboosting.
The only time you have any pop TURBO related coming from the exhaust is when you get a pop of smoke (small hint of blue) coming from left over oil in the turbo during first driving it. I had a 400hp SRT4 Caliber before this. Thing popped like crazy! When it did, fire would be seen due from high boost and fuel hitting the exhaust. If anything, it is good for the turbo cars. Downpipes get clogged up, especially when it's catted. You have no pop, you can crack a downpipe quick from the build up. The pop blows that stuff out when you are running high boost. Meth cars will always pop also.

I know what the popping noise is and still think anything that pops too much or too loud sounds awful. I've set my tune to where it's between a rumble and a pop.

Love the pop, in fact you can get it to pop more on downhills if you ever so slightly hit the gas after it stops popping. It starts it back up

I think you might be mistaken. You should meet a friend of mine that had a turbo LS1 4th gen. His exhaust popped pretty loudly all the time and eventually it destroyed the turbo after it ruined two waste gates. Not to mention it messed with his oil pressure and vacuum enough that there was risk of damaging the motor also. You can think what you want, but popping because of fuel issues is not a good thing on a forced induction car.

Thank you, popping from exhaust is just fuel igniting in the exhaust. It's no big deal. Ricers also pop when their bouncing on the rev limiter as well.

My daily driver is a 2009 Cobalt SS, which was the turbocharged year. From the factory, the only time it decel pops is when I let off the gas to slow down and don't press the clutch. In 2010, I changed the down pipe to a high flow catted one and put the GM Stage 1 tune on, and it still only decel pops the same way. But! GM used the corvettes no lift shift feature on these, and when you do it, it will now shoot out a blue flame from the tailpipe, which is excess fuel being dumped into the cylinder wall to compensate for the computer maintaining boost when you press the clutch in to no lift shift... My point is that GM engineered the car to "pop" to burn off the excess fuel in the exhaust... If it was going to hurt the turbo, they wouldn't have offered the feature. You also have to understand the amount of time the exhaust gasses take to pass through the turbo vs how long they stay in the down pipe. Maybe it's different on a V8?! But I wouldn't think so...

I love it. I was behind a blue Z06 in town that had a NASTY cam and whenever he got the decel pop it sounded like a gunshot. Heard his car popping from well over a 1/4 mile in front me. 'Twas awesome.
