I'd rather have a smoother ride with no complication of stalling, so I went with Automatic. You also get better gas mileage with Automatic. I hate the feeling of being jerked when shifting gears. The Automatic is just so much smoother. This car to me is really for crusing around and blasting your sound system with the windows time and making people's heads turn. If it comes to racing on a track, I am happy with what I got and I think with 420 HP I should be ok with having automatic. It is really personal preference. Both ways feels like you are driving a car, and with this car no matter which way, it is still an intense ride.

Auto will get better MPG, unless you know how to milk it out of a stick. The variable cylinder will boost your city driving up a few MPG. If you need to throw the car around the curves, rally style, you have the TapShift to play with, which I actually prefer over a short throw. Its much more like racing an Indy Car at that point. There is something to say about the 'feel' of jamming a short throw into gear though. Its much more satisfying.

Well, thanks to everyone that has posted! It was a tough decision, but I did go with the automatic. I drive in the city a lot, and I'll be taking this freaking car downtown ALL the time, so the ease and smoothness of the automatic just seemed like the way to go. I do still agree that a "true" muscle car has a manual transmission, mine just won't, lol! It wasn't an easy decision, but I honestly think that it is the right one for me. Thank you again for all the advice and stories!

Oh a side note, as of 4:30 this afternoon I ordered a 2LT/RS, Rally Yellow w/ Black racing stripes, sunroof, automatic transmission. Now the REAL journey begins... SUCK MAN!!! I want it NOW!

For a v6, I would personally go with the auto. Sure, stick might be a little more fun, but you'll still have a blast, get better 0-60 times (most likely)...and in the v6 you will need it a little more if someone wants to race you at the light since you don't have the big ol' v8 power to make up for a little inefficient shifting. Also on the v6, you will probably get better resale value way down the road when it comes time to sell the car. It's the mainstream model and having an auto will give you a bigger market to sell to. Just my 2c

Now that I see you already ordered...congrats! Be glad they are working those extra shifts to build your car!

I thought with the automatic you get 400HP and not 420. With the manual you get 426HP, right?

Sorry i gota call you out on this one, you fail sir. If you drive the manual correctly and handle the gears you can actually get better mileage with a manual transmission because you can control every shift point from start to stop. The feeling of jerkiness goes away when you learn the feeling of the clutch (if your talking about being a passenger then the guy driving just sucks).

For some reason, I always feel like flooring it though...

Manual or Automatic, my fuel and tire bill is going to go way up no matter what.

Automatic for me. Manual? Well I stopped counting at 2 million miles in tractor/trailers with non-syncromesh staight cut gear 18 speeds, so the gloss went off that apple a long time ago.

At first I wanted an automatic...but over the weekend, I drove a manual for the first time, and now I'm knocking $995 off my future Camaro and getting a manual.

The manual has a limited slip diff. the auto does not.
The gear ratios are a lot better in the manual too so you'll have more power off the line.

Gas mileage is the same on the highway and only one less around town.
Once you get used to it its a lot more fun driving a manual.
Better performance save $1000 bucks.
Get what you're happy with. The tapshift will still have some of the fun factor if you opt for the auto but not as much.

Which for me would be the automatic as I was never fortunate enough to learn how to drive a standard (fluidly... I could do it if I HAD to)... My gut initially told me to order the manual and suck up the embarrasment of squeeling the tires and killing it multiple times just to get it out of the parking lot. However, nowmy gut tells me to order the automatic... I'm ordering it in Richmod, VA even though I live in OK.
I was just wondering if anyone may have some helpful advice on the issue, perhaps there are perks to one vs the other?!

Thanks in advance!
Looks like you are ordering the exact same car as me. I went with the automatic because it is my daily driver and I commute in rush hour traffic. Manual would be fun but the sport mode of the automatic is fine with me. If only there was a transmission that would let you switch between full automatic and full manual...oh well!
