Toll booths?

Sometimes the toll roads branch off to where you need to go but you can't because you have to have the Toll Pass to use in that section or get a ticket because theres no toll booth to pay once you get on it.

If I had to pay to drive in Nebraska, I would drive around the state. Oh yeah last vacation to the west we did,went north to South Dakota. Not trying to bash Nebraska because were nieghbors, but that is the longest and boringest drive of a lifetime. Not saying Iowa is that much more exciting, but is a lot shorter.

Florida is pretty bad with tools when you are travilng towards the orland, Tampa, and Miami area. There's ways around them though. You have to decided to spend like 8 bucks each way or add another 30-45 minuets on your trip.

Live in Texas but car is registered in Michigan. They can't bill out of state, I've never received a bill for a single toll. It's quite a nice arrangement.

Tolls are absolute horseshit.

I live in Illinois - I have to pay 4 tolls everyday for work which is like $3.00 4 x $0.75 - We have the most/highest tolls I think in the US, and we have the crappiest roads. Go figure.

I used to do a lot of driving in Houston, and averaged 10 toll booths per day.

Let me tell you this: Few things make a man more likely to throw a brick through a toll booth window than tossing the money into the catch bin, and having it 'error out' and demand that you "Pay Toll Now." Especially when you just threw your last $1.25 in there, it's the middle of the night and there are no booth attendants. You are simply bent over and bhutflucked, and even if you have a buddy who can manually lift the gate so you can squeeze your car through, you ARE going to be cited, charged, and billed. Not because you failed to pay the toll, but because their equipment malfunctioned. Did I mention how much I LOVE tolls?

In all fairness, though.... regarding the tolls around Houston, they are just the "shorter" route... a motorist can choose to go the "long" way and pay no toll, or, pay a premium for the shortcut. In other words, paying the toll is not mandatory, but is a fee for convenience.

Kansas has a toll booth right on I70 between Kansas City and Topeka. $2.50 for that crap...

Yeah usually when I'm in Orlando I'll take the tolls because it's a nicer road then I4 and usually a little less congested. I have the SunPass so I don't have to stop too so it's nice plus I get a reduced toll.

I too drive NW Indiana toll roads (I-90) every day to and from work. Most of the roads around here suck. I use I-90 and pay the tolls because it is more convenient for me, has less traffic on it and far less trucks than I-94. EZpass is the way to go, don't have to stop, they just debit your account. Most toll roads are actually Interstate highways.

Tons of them in Florida. That said. Most of the toll roads here are in better shape than the ones that aren't and have far less traffic on them. Many also cut down on driving distance to certain spots.

We also have a good deal of very easy tolls that you can drive full speed through if you have a Sunpass. Now those are great when you don't even have to slow down.

Ya, my wife pays about 4 dollars a day in tolls going to work and back through Orlando.

Stephens, to answer your question, your taxes don't cover the toll roads, the tolls do. They are generally built by a private group and justified by not being a burden on the state/federal road system, since all cost incurred is covered by the collection of tolls.
