livernois is great they did my tune after I installed my maggie. They will flash your ecm so you can drive it there safely before they tune it. they also like rotofab air cleaners over other brands. so if your going to buy one make sure you get that one. I had to sell my other aftermarket one.

I asked because I find them to be overpriced. Their shipping price is a prime example of that. Just my .02

I look at shipping like this... It took the guy 11 hours to get to my house.... So that totals 44 hours of driving. I was charged 1500.00 for shipping cost....

Probably cost the guy 3 tanks of gas... I'd say 300-500 in fuel... Food... Etc... So lets say the man picking up my car made 800.00 profit.

That's only 18.00 and hour. Which seems pretty reasonable to me....

Also have to take in consideration how far the drive is.. Is it posssible to make the trip to your destination and back in one day... A hotel might me a added expense also...

Not to mention toll costs, or other items.

I find it interesting that anyone thinks our transport is costly. I am told constantly, for the service we provide, we are usually cheaper than most open car hauler services. We only charge for fuel, tolls, food for the driver, and if over a certain distance, a hotel stay. We don't roll in the cost of the truck, we don't factor pay for the driver (usually they are a worker that is just being a good guy and volunteering to help out over the weekend).

Using Kevin1106 as an example he is approximately 575 miles away. Well, we leave from here, drive there to pick it up, and of course come back. That is 1150 miles of driving just to pick it up, then to go back again that's 2300 miles total. Our truck/trailer get's about 9 miles to the gallon. That's ~255.5 gallons of diesel. Diesel (at least around here) is ~4.30 a gallon. That's 1100 just in fuel. Then add tolls in the tune of around 150, so now we are at 1250, add the fact the truck uses UREA injection, that's another 30 a trip. So far we are at 1280. Then you have food for the guy. The trip is about a total of 44 hours of driving with a trailer, so 4 days of food as he isn't going to push it much past the 11-12 hour mark for driving in a single seating with no rest. Even at only 30/day that's $120. Now we are at the 1500 he was charged assuming the guy sleeps in the truck, has no unexpected costs, factors no wear/tear on the truck, or trailer.

On the flip side of the coin though, had he chosen to drive the vehicle to us it would have cost him gas as well, then a flight back (or a rental car, plus gas, plus the special 1 way trip charge), time off of work, and sales tax.

When you actually think about it, there are many times it is cheaper for us to pick up a vehicle instead of someone driving to us. There have also been numerous times it is cheaper for us to pick up a car than it is for them to have it done locally and pay the sales tax.

We offer this service as a convenience item, I promise you, we do not profit off of the price of the transportation. And we are fine with that because we are helping to convenience the customer.

At the end of all this, we are never going to be the cheapest. There is ALWAYS someone cheaper. A company that chases being the cheapest will always have to make tradeoffs somewhere. Quality of parts and quality of labor are the two biggest areas that these tradeoffs happen in the race to be cheap. We would rather spend the time providing great value. Services, capabilities, reliability, and performance that other shops charge thousands and thousands more for. We try to balance our costing to be more in line with a smaller 3 or 4 bay shop, while providing a 36,000 square foot facility that does NOTHING but late model domestic performance.

This thread alone shows that customer's appreciate this balance, and the service they get. Most of our customers bring (or transport) it back for at least a second round of upgrades, if not 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc.

Just as an FYI, Livernois' cost INCLUDING transport for me was cheaper than some other quotes I got without transport.

Not to mention I'd have to take a day off work, drive the car up there (mileagle plus fuel and my time) rent a room for the night, fly back then repeat the process again to pick up the car.

Money well spent in my opinion. These guys are great to work with and a model for customer service. This was my 2nd trip, and assuming they still offer the service in the future, I'm sure I'll be having them pick up the car for something again.

I know I'm getting a quality job at Livernois and that peace of mind is something that I can't put a price tag on.

And because I forgot in my earlier post, thanks to Andy, Rick, Kyle from BMR, and the entire Livernois team for taking care of my car and making this a reality.

check your IAT calibration.

Lots of us, using the Whipple IAT sensor, with the stock or Whipple tune, show ~15F lower IAT.

This is based on key on, not running, 24+hr cooldown, constant room temp, verified by the coolant temp, and the radio air temp gauge.

Example:
85F coolant, 85F air temp = 70F IAT
35F coolant, 36F air temp = 20F IAT

I simply added 15F to every cell in the cal table.

So far no body from Whipple has been able to explain the difference.
