No, at 1,700 miles on a 2012...

I broke it in properly as stated in the owners guide. I am wondering if the no rattle has something to do with that...

To me this argument is like the the orange peel in the paint. if you don't know what your looking for it is not there.

I have not heard one running with the hood up yet where it was not slitly there. now some people might just think it is normal.

break in has nothing to do with the rattle it is am mechanical part with a spring in it. it is going to just serve its function. you can see by the pictures though the spring does wear into the shaft but this is by "design".

As a reference, what I'm hearing is no louder than the tick of the lifters.

well since you have hydraulic lifters I hope your hearing something else as they should never tick.

what you are going to hear most on this car with the hood up is the injectors and the isolator.

for the record mine is not bad or unlivable at this state. It does not bother me any worse that all popping fromt he exhaust on decel.

you need to add another option to the poll. the dreaded rattle is almost by design so the options should be like

hood up yes, hood down no
hood down as well
no
don't know

like I said if you don't hear it slightly they you probabaly are not listening there is no way that spring touching the shaft is not going to produce a sound. I have not seen one picture yet of a shaft without grooves in it.

HAD?? Are you saying you had 2 ZL1's as in past tense? Did you sell them?

They aren't mine. They just resided at my place of employment until they were sold. One is still here.

I was at a car meet this past weekend, a guy with a stock ZL1 complained of blower rattle at 4k RPM and above. He said it is especially noticeable in gears 1, 2, 3 when he is trying to shred the tires.

4000 miles. Very slight rattle that can be heard if hood is open and you listen specifically for it. Not too worried about it.
