I think I know what you are thinking. A touch screen display in that spot for a car-puter. Make you own NAV, MP3 player, backup camera, DVD player, ODB2, Programmer, etc....
I was thinking about that also. I've built some in a couple of my other cars, but I was debating about doing one in the Camaro. Since the Camaro is retro, I kinda like the pure driving experience. But to each his own. If you come up with something cool, let me know...... http://store.mp3car.com/Monitors_and...reens_s/21.htm |

Ok, I see what he meant by it sloping down better from this angle. Here's the original pic
Here's the width I'm looking for now, you can see more clearly the line I'm trying to follow above, it's where it's still mostly flat before it really slopes down. ![]() If I could get confirmation on that width, it'd be all I need to know. Thank you! |

IMHO, I don't think the Camaro is really all that retro. I think it has a ton of heritage in it, but when I think retro I think Challenger & Ford GT, the stuff that is unmistakably a modern version of a classic vehicle. I think that the Camaro (and even the mustang) are more of a modern evolution with strong ties to it's heritage. My idea of retro may be broken, but it's just MHO anyway

Well thank you all for your help!
I think it will be a tight fit, but hopefully I'll be able to make it work & look clean! Now I just have to wait for two things to be delivered, I'm guessing the one I ordered today will get here first, but the one I ordered first mmmmm well worth the wait! Thanks again everyone for your help!

Well... I've got some stuff in a box on my desk, but no car in the garage :(
I've been at 3400 for a while, waiting to hear the TPW from my salesman, & I'm still trying to find people at GM & other vendors to get some more specifics. I'll be posting pictures & details once I get everything together & make sure it actually works well. |

And what a pitb it was...
![]() ![]() But hopefully (after I have some time to enjoy the car) it will be worth it ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I'll take better pictures after I get some time to get familiar with it. I've added most everything I wanted to order with my 1SS, but couldn't as they were not available from GM. Navigation Bluetooth iPod/Phone integration (including video) Support for MP3, WMA, iTunes AAC, WAV and MPEG-4 via USB device or SD card Conversational Voice Recognition MSN Direct (have not subscribed yet, will probably check it out) Rear view camera (bought a Boyo license plate frame camera, will get a pict of it later, helps with the poor rearward visibility, I live in apartments don't want to run over any kids, ducks, or iguanas )And it all goes through the factory stereo! Fortunately the solution (although it has many parts / accessories to do this all) is all from one main unit, the Pioneer F500BT. It requires several accessories to do all of this (iPod cables, ND-G500 gateway amplifier, rear view camera, multiple wiring harnesses, & some trial & error on mounting solutions), but once it's all together you only really interface with the unit The cable to connect all of this to the Camaro is a prototype / test harness, they're not available on the market yet I don't believe, but I'm guessing that's not too far off. Until someone builds a replacement center stack console (and builds the circuit boards & everything else to make it work) this is as close as it gets to a double din navigation unit in the car while keeping your AC controls and vehicle settings in the infotainment system. Several companies (I've been trying to help some of them) are working on doing this, but none of them are close yet, and I don't anticipate anyone will be soon. Just to give you an example, the Mazda 6 (my wife's car) has a similar setup, and a company started making a double din capable dash kit for it. I believe it took them about 3 years from the time they said they were going to when it was available, the company had changed hands at least once, and the finished product was around $400. Obviously that will not be the case with the Camaro as it is a much hotter platform for modification, all the major players are already working on their own solutions (instead of one smaller company finally getting around to it years after the car comes out), I'm just saying it may take some time. And, some of the aftermath... Electronics, wiring, car care, and daddy's new driving shoes ![]()
