I am about 6' 1" and I know what you mean. I love sunroofs and the extra sunlight coming into the interior. I am not uncomfortable, but I wouldn't have minded an extra inch or two not having a sunroof would've afforded me. It hasn't ruined my fun any, regardless.

my .02

the trunk on the challenger is more functional, the visibility is better. the handling of the ZL1 is just a league above the competion period. The stock power is good but not earth shattering on the ZL1 but mods are simple and easy take take the power to the next level.

1. I would not run the sun roof reduces headroom for helmet

2. do get the exposed carbon insert

3. tranny buy what you like but realize the auto is $2600 more.

4. skip the footwell lighting or suede package as there are over priced as a dealer option. even if you want them adding them later is 45% cheaper

5. if you want nav add it as a factory options as it is not simple to add later.

Sunroof really isn't a problem unless you need a helmet for track days and you happen to have a long torso.

"Bonus" Gas Guzzler Tax for auto tranny is $2600 (like Hognutz said) but manual GGT is $1300 - your stuck with it!!

Microfiber suede steering wheel and shift knob are extra $500 - I went with it after seeing a 427 Vette outfitted with one, nice feel and improved grip IMO. Some say microfiber wears out faster than the standard leather.

I prefer polished alumimum wheels.... BUT after the shine disappears in a single day I would have opted for the standard black wheels to disguise the severe dusting (Wonder if black is any easier to clean??). Some have gone with aftermarket ceramic pads to help reduce the dust bowl.

Good luck and hope your hot rod Chevelle fared better thru Sandy....
I guarantee your ZL1 experience will be a blast!!!

We had an '09 Challenger SRT8 6M. That car was a blast to drive and it was very comfortable. Traded it in on '13 ZL1 Auto. I still miss the Challenger, but this ZL1 is a whole level up on performance. The main thing I miss now it the Manual trans. You will not be disappointed if you go with the Z.

Good luck,
JO

Thanks for all the replies and info.

I went back to the dealer today and left a deposit on a factory order. They assured me they have allocation, and I grilled the manager over that repeatedly. Deal ended up at over $2,200.00 off sticker so I'm satisfied with that.

Here is what I ordered:

Blue Ray Paint, 6 speed, and every option including Nav, indoor and outdoor car covers, excluding the chrome gas cap. I did opt for the roof as I will likely spend more time without a helmet then with. I'm 5' 10" so I should be good.

Does anyone have a picture of the rear trunk stripe and optional gas cap for me to check out?

I dealt with three dealers...I placed an order with Dealer #1, who flat-out lied about having an allocation...when I found this out six weeks later, I canceled my order. Dealer #2 did indeed have an allocation, but seemed shady for a number of reasons...I should've gone with my gut right there and walked out immediately, but instead I placed an order with them. But I hated the idea that they were getting my business, so I started looking around for other dealers...I found one who could get my car off a lot that had just about everything I wanted. So I canceled with Dealer #2 and ordered my Z through Dealer #3.

Dealer #3 wasn't much better...when I asked them if it would be possible to swap the black rims for brights, the salesman told me that the alignment would have to be adjusted to accommodate the bright forged, so no, they couldn't...which was a flat-out lie, which I later called him out on (he claimed we had a "miscommunication"). Fine if you can't swap the rims, but don't LIE about it!

So sadly, the three GM dealers I dealt with to buy my Z were all pretty scummy in their own ways. The GM dealer I bought my HHR SS from back in '09 couldn't have been better, so it's not like ALL GM dealers suck. But good for you for harping on them and making them confirm that they do indeed have an allocation to you...more than one ZL1 buyer has been misled about that.

$2200 off is a good deal. should be happy with that. someof those options are cheaper to add after the fact but some don't like messing with it.
