K & N filters are way overpriced. The three best filters on the market for construction quality and filter pass efficiency are Wix, Hastings, and Purolator Pure One. K & N are nothing more than an AC Delco (made by Champ) with a lug on the bottom the make removal easier. There is an independent test over on bobistheoilguy.com that goes into detail on pass efficiency of the filter medias. If you cut a few of these filters open and look at their internal construction you will see what I am talking about.

ACDelco PF48. They've worked perfect forever. When I was a tech, never saw a single problem with one. Plus they were factory engineered to match the car for flow and micron. Saw plenty of problems with aftermarket filters, mostly FRAM and Purolator. They have decent versions, but also versions that are garbage.

The ACDelco has one benefit that trumps all. Anything goes wrong with it (highly highly doubtful), but just in case - your still covered by the factory warranty. Something goes wrong with an aftermarket filter, you'll get an estimate for an engine repair instead of warranty coverage.

We use to see two common problems with the lower quality filters. The drainback valve either missing or not working causing lifter knock on start up. The other is filter media or the cardboard end caps coming apart and blockup up oil passages. That wipes the motor right out. Some don't have the metal inner can, and could collapse inward when their cheaper relief vavle doesn't work at high start up pressure. The PF-48s have a high quality anti drain back valve, coil spring pressure relieve valves, and metal end caps. They are overbuilt and perfect quality for a decent price.

I cut this one apart a while back after someone tried to knock them saying they didn't have metal end caps.

You can see the metal coil spring inside for the pressure relief. The cheaper ones often leave that out or a very cheap little bent metal strip as the spring, metal end caps, the black rubber ring is the anti-drain back vavle...

If you have a dry sump LS7 or dry sump Vette GS LS3, those use the UPF-48R. Those have a thicker can body for the
super high oil pressure those engines hit at start up.

Why not? He's asking about a brand, does not matter if its for a V6 or a V8. A sh$t brand is a sh$t brand across the board, same can be said for a good brand.

The worst filter you could possibly use.

I would beg to differ, the V6 and V8 filters are totally different and made entirely different. Just because one brand makes a good spin on filter doesn't necessarily mean they can make a good paper filter and vice versa.

AC Delco all the way. Best filter for the money.

I have used Mobil1 filters as sometimes the parts stores run "oil change specials" such as free filter when you buy 5 quarts of Mobil1 kinda thing. Pretty similar in quality to the Delco one.

Why? I've read that the Ultra is much improved over the regular fram junk. Have you had problems with this filter?

AC Delco and if I can't get one I'll use a Napa filter. (Napa filters are made by WIX I think)
