This is normal for Bi-Xenon Projector style headlights. The sound you hear is the solenoid moving the shade that cuts off part of the light stream when you have your low beams on.

while we are on the subject of the HID headlights, how good is the high beam illumination? i do a lot of driving on dark country roads.

When I first did it I was like 'what is that THUNK' when I change the intensity???' I figured it was normal.
But definitely strange when you've never had this type of headlights. LOL
