I tried arguing that the ZL1 was built for road tracks and not 1/4th mile, but unfortunately I'm arguing with the equivalent of a highschool girl who is saying "Gee the GT500 can go 10.5 with basic bolt ons and stock tire, what can the ZL1 do?" According to him, the vast majority only cares about 1/4th times not track days. I was hoping someone would be able to pop in with a 10 second timeslip that might have just not contributed to the 1/4th mile times thread so I could shove it back in this guy's face.

I have a 69 I run 9's in so my Z1 is a road coarse car. I am headed to Sebring later in February for an open track day and I will post numbers at that time...with GoPro video. In my mind, the ZL1 is primarily a road coarse car and I am excited to get it on one of the more famous road courses in the Southeast to see how it stacks up. So, just because I am not posting 1/4 mile times doesn't mean I am not racing the car :-)

Actually, as witnessed by the results of this thread and many others, the vast majority could care less what times, straight or twisty, their cars are capable of running.

The vast majority simply bought 'em to be enjoyed...

I am so jealous. I bet you will be smiling the whole time. I will also be taking my car to the road courses available here in So Cal. I agree that this car although many are drag racing it was made for the twisty roads. I took my car thru the mountains roads and could not believe the grip and braking it delivers for such a heavy car! Looking forward to your stories at Sebring.

I wholeheartedly agree - I should have rephrased my post that according to the guy I was arguing with he thinks 1/4th mile times are all that matters. I was just hoping that someone would pop in here and say "Actually I've taken my ZL1 to 10.4s with a short list of bolt ons" and a timeslip so I could turn around and shove it in the other guy's face. I completely agree that the ZL1 was designed to be an all around track car - just unfortunate that right now we have absolutely no answer to the GT500 or the Cobra Jet.

While I understand where you are coming from I have not read a single article from an objective journalist that puts the GT500 above the ZL1 when giving their overall opinions of the total car. The ZL1 has more engineering from bumper to bumper than the GT500 which puts almost all their focus (and weight) under the hood. In my mind (and obviously I am biased) we do have an answer, it is the ZL1 and I have never left my driveway and went somewhere where I did not have to make a turn at some point. There is much more to life than between traffic lights .
