Hey fellas what is the name of this octane booster mentioned and where can I buy it. I'll put it in with my Shell 91. I remember in the 60s when Clark Super 100 WAS 100 octane but.......those were the days my friends, those were the days.

To reset it manually without having to wait for the ECM to eventually do it

The fuse pull thing is this website's urban legend myth. It is the classic placebo test case.
I did the fuse pull 2x, once when I first read about it and figured the dlr filled it with regular. I didn't detect any difference. So I purposely ran 87 through 3 tankfuls. By middle of the 2nd tank I could tell a difference in performance. So then I went back to 91 octane on the first fill up, then 92 for the next two fillups. Car went back to normal "bad ass" performance. There is a very long string about how the fuse routing shows that the 5 20 fuse pull doesn't work. I only did a year of electronics and can't read schematics anymore, so I took it to a genuine Electrical Engineer who knows nothing of this ongoing debate. But he could say without doubt that the schematics and hence the routing of the electric current wouldn't matter "squat" if you pulled said fuses, for a moment or overnight which is the current buzz on this myth. But hey, if it makes you feel the car drives better, then, better. But consider this: If you are putting 91 octane in your car for a while, and then you start putting in 93, do you need to again do another fuse pull?.... Sorry, I can't resist the art of rhetoric.....and I am leaving this door open for you. I aint responding back to your rants because of my 2 week ban "For crapping on the thread" by the guy with the smoking monkey. Best, and peace out. |

Read labels on octane boosters. They increase octane by .01 or something stupid like that. They are a waste of money.

For anyone NJ, PA, VA, Fl residents with Wawa gas stations near them; they have great gas. They are actually higher grades then what they advertise...so use there gas if you are able too. Plus, they would never pull a stunt like this!
I suggest not using corner gas stations too because around my way they have been caught watering down there gas. |

The ECM references both tables. When 87 octane was introduced the percentage that the low table was being referenced increased. Once 93 was back in the tank the percentage of referencing the high octane table went back to 100% over a fairly short period of time. This was on the LS3. I'm unsure if the L99 will relearn or if it does it just takes a really long time and why GM has the TSB only covering Camaros with AFM.

How do you "water down gas?" Do you have to stir it really, really fast? Because they do not mix.

There are two different types of pumps used. There is a straight metering pump and a blend metering pump. The pumps with a different nozzle for each octane is a straight meter pump. With a straight meter pump the tanks are filled with each octane sold. On a blend meter pump there is one nozzle with multiple octane selection buttons. The tanks are filled with the lowest and highest octane being sold. If you select either the low or high octane the pump will meter straight. If you select a mid grade the pump will pull from both tanks and blend the octane you selected.
The OP has nothing to worry about, he got the octane he selected.

I used to use "octane boost 104". They advertised an 11 octane rating increase if used properly. So with 93 it would make your fuel 104. All I ever noticed was my exhaust smelled more rich, and my engine idled smoother

Ethanol. The more ethanol the more worthless the fuel is. They are allowed 10% by law. They can be lower though. The more ethanol the more the fuel is watered down. I thought this was common knowledge?? The higher % the worse mpg. They use it to increase the octane rating instead of other more expensive chemicals. That's why some fuel is more expensive than others.
