That was a great read, and thanks for sharing. My first thought was, I don't have the strength this guys got. . I probably would have been walking out of there deeper in debt.

Congrats on making the wise decision and many more miles of smiles with her......until you get the deniros to get your SS.

Sent from my 2SS/RS
Or..just maybe he couldn't tell that big of a difference?

I was in the same predicament as the OP. I test drove an SS with the intention of trading, took my best friend along with me. First thing he said was what I was thinking, "this is nice..sounds great, but I can't tell a huge difference from yours." The SS is indeed quicker, and it sounds awesome, but the way some talk about their SS' around here you'd think they drove ZR1s or GTRs.

Maybe the OP generally liked his car. He said he had the money to do it, so did I and many others. We all weren't "in denial" over anything. I will say that part of mine was probably due to it being overhyped around here. Felt like the exact same car, just sounded a lot better and went a little quicker.

I started talking to the same guy that sold me my Camaro. His name is Tom. I told him I still have regrets sometimes about not getting an SS. I said I'd like to test drive one but I thought that would make me feel like my car was less awesome. Then I said , "Heck with it. I have to see how much better the SS is." So he says "Okay you could take an SS for a drive if you want." I asked if they had a manual 2SS I could try. He says "Yes."

So we go out and sitting next to a IOM ZL1 with black wheels (first time I've seen one in person and it is FANTASTIC, and way out of my price range) and a Hot Wheels edition SS there's this sweet 2013 Summit White 2SS/RS with IOM stripes and interior. Not my first choice for colors but whatevs. It had the 2010-12 RS wheels on it which I like better than the 2013 wheels. But we get in and I notice right away the interior just seem bigger than my car. The LS doesn't have power seats and since I'm 6' 3" I feel a little cramped in my car. But not in this SS. I mean it was a big difference. I had more head room and more leg room. I liked the newer steering wheel, it felt good in my hands. It had a Hurst shift knob, also felt good, not sure if it was a short throw or not. I'm guessing it was. I look down at the My link radio gizmo and thought ' yea that's neat.'

Then it happened. I started it up. It was equipped with the new quad tipped dual mode exhaust. 400 plus ponies roar to life. Oh My Gosh. That sounded awesome! I'm thinking 'this was a bad idea.' I ask Tom about the HUD cuz I wanna know these things. I say "How do you turn it on?" Then I noticed it was already on. How cool! I didn't know that it projects the display so it gives the illusion that the numbers are floating in the air about 3 feet in front of the car! I thought they were just like flat on the windshield right in front of you. I'm impressed. Me want.

Okay let's take this baby to the freeway and see what all the hubub's about. I have a little trouble getting thru the gears sometimes. I'm guessing it's because of skip shift technoligy, that would have to go. I get on the freeway ramp and floor it in 3rd gear....Awesome sound and power! Feels great! What a fantastic car.
So we get back to the dealership and do some talking. That was a 38,000 dollar car. I can't afford that really. But maybe a 30,000 dollar car. I told him I could probably live without the HUD and the Leather so a 1SS /RS is an option. Preferably in Ashen Grey and maybe slightly used to get into my price range.
So I shake the man's hand and leave. Get back into my car and the start her up. The sound isn't as impressive. But I get on it a little bit and chirp the tires in first and second gears. It feels just as good to me as that awesome SS that I just got out of. I go to Panera's for dinner and stare at it through the window. I love my car. I have made it just the way I like it little by little these past couple years. I don't think I can trade it in. I've always liked my car but I feel so much better about it now. Sure it is not as beastly or well appointed as some Camaros but I know now that what was driving me crazy was not knowing the difference between my car and the SS. Now that I know the difference I can honestly say that I can live with that. I'm glad I took that test drive today and I think I'm over the regrets I was having. I have a renewed appreciation for my car. But who knows? If my buddy Tom calls with a killer deal on an SS... well.
Great post !!!!
Drive whatever you feels most comfortable with.
Forget about the $$ and the engine options.
My first test drive was in a base model Camaro but the sales person was a Sofa King sales guy.
I ended up buying my car down the street without even knowing the difference.
If you happy with you car keep it and keep on driving.
The body style are the same and I was never able to tell the difference until I joined this form!!

I can sense this thread will become another V6 vs V8 war.

-"My V8 is a almost two seconds faster"
-"Two seconds is nothing!"
-"Two seconds is almost two bus lengths!"
-"So, I'm probably faster than 99% of most cars in my area, and will probably never race!"

I've seen it all! Although passion is what makes this site great!

there seems to be a mix of guys here..some are guys that haved moved on to the ss from their v6..and were glad they did ,they are saying its a huge difference. Then you have the guys that test drive the ss and end up keeping their v6s , and post that they dont feel a difference between the 2 cars...i cant believe that there is only a slight difference between the 2 cars as some guys claim, i think it s just a matter of opinion..v6 guys are happy in the end with their cars...some say these guys are in denial when they say there is not much of a difference. I think it comes down to the fact that their v6 cars are good enough for them..in the end thats all that matters

I agree, OP is in denial.

Had a 1LT and traded it in after a yr. The SS is a different beast. Maybe the car he test drove is not broken in. Low octane also. Just a few things to think about.

*rolls eyes*

I see you got a reassured stroke of that e-weewee didn't ya? I don't see what the concept of not being impressed is.

Personally I don't see what's so attractive about Angelina jolie. Kate upton on the other hand...

Props to OP to keep the v6. I wish I was like you, Id be rich!!! What you feel like and can afford is the most important.

I dont think OP is in denial; he thinks the diff between the 2 is not worth it.

In fact, there is a big gap between the 2 for performance. But the v6 is a bit lighter, more mpg, and still has that sweet look!

I feel the opposite of some of you guys. See, I originally didn't care if I had a V6 or a V8. Gas price isn't an issue for me. And considering the potential of the V6 with forced induction, I figured I could get a V6 and twin turb her.

So I test drove the V6 first. And all I can remember is trying to convince myself that I would be happy with it. But the more I took it along on the test drive the more I realized that my 03 Mustang GT is faster. And I couldn't see myself making $500/month payments on a low 14 second car. Not to mention that I couldn't justify making those payments on a car and then hhave to convince myself that I'm happy with it when I know deep down I'm not. I mean, it was fun to drive, but when I got on the Parkway and mashed the gas, it just didn't thrill me at all. Now when I took my 2010 2SS/RS M6 on the test drive, I remember feeling my breath getting taken away and my head being forced back.

Now don't take this as a bash. Because it isn't in any way. I'm just being honest. Ultimately, each person has to be happy with his/her car. And the V6 Camaro is a great performing and great looking car. But it does not brake, handle, accelerate, or offer as much comfort as the SS. I had a 2012 V6 for about 2 or 3 weeks back in November. And there is a profound difference between the two cars. Chevy would not make both cars with such a difference in price if there wasn't a similar difference in performance. The key to the OP's point is that the difference was not worth the price to him. Kinda like paying for an extra large pizza with the works when you'd be happy with one slice. I feel the OP is just being financially responsible in respects to his individual situation. Others aren't as responsible and end up hating their car because it isn't practicle for them. But I feel the opposite in that the performance of the V6 is not worth having payments for the next few years.

Now considering how these threads go, I don't see why OP felt it necessary to bring this up. If you love your car, then you shouldn't have to compare it to another car to realize that. My dream car is the Vette and Viper. But driving one won't have any effect on how I feel about my Camaro. And I'm not tempted to go get one right now, I'm not curious how it will feel to drive one right now, it isn't weighing me down that I don't know, and I won't trade my Camaro in to get one. Because I love my car and it is perfectly ideal for me right now. I even like going to work because it's a reason to drive my car. But I'm not gonna sit here and imply that a Vette isn't worth it's price simply because I love my car. That's just silly. Again, this isn't any sort of bash. I'm just sounding off how I personally feel about the subject. I apologize if I came across as insulting because that is definitely not my intention.

I think there is one question to answer.

Is 130 horsepower worth 8 thousand dollars extra?

To me it's not, to someone else it might be. There is no wrong answer.

I think it also depends on what you drove before your Camaro. I drove an SUV, so moving up to the v6 already felt a world of a difference. I didn't even consider the SS. Well, also, the SUV made me sick of getting gas ever few days. Ugh.
