Just make sure to kneed the clay pretty frequently so that you are using "fresh" clay. The clay will grab debris off the paint and if you then go over the surface you might as well be using sandpaper. If you drop it on the ground, then throw it away for the same reason mentioned above.

There 2 types of waterspots

ones that are etched into the clearcoat and ones that aren't.

you need an abrasive to get the etched ones out (Z-PC or other buffing compound)

you can wash the surface spots off... or just wipe them off

Yup, I've got them....irregular wrinkles about the diameter of a pencil eraser.
Almost a dozen spots on the hood, roof and trunklid.

Blotting with bug and tar remover with a microfiber towel will reduce the size but does not eliminate them. The wrinkles appear etched into the clear coat.

Wet sanding time...

Warning children- DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME (if you've never done it before).

Edit-> BTW, nothing coarser than 1500 to start.

If the clay doesn't get it all try some diluted distilled white vinegar diluted with water, followed with some polish.

Good advice but I got the impression that it's actually a CC defect(s) as opposed to post-contamination.

Claybar does not remove the wrinkles because it's not a surface contaminant. Scratch/swirl remover will help to an extent until the blemish becomes a low spot on the paint then I have to stop.

Wet sanding is nothing to be afraid of; in fact I'm considering block sanding Waldo over the winter while he's sitting in the garage for 3 months doing nothing. That being said, I've had SOME experience doing it and have a good friend who is just short of a pro at it. He is positive that "we" can have Waldo's "skin" looking like glass as long as we TAKE OUR TIME and concentrate on one thing at a time- i.e. one door. Wet sanding is a project, not something to do one cloudy afternoon.

That's one place GM screws up. I'd have GLADLY paid another few hundred bucks for an additional clear coat while it's being painted. It wouldn't cost them half that much to do it while it's going through paint. I'd love to see that as an option code for future ordering.
