I need to pick me up another Western Digital drive. They're getting cheap now for the near 1TB range.

Pretty cool vid.
I've known how to do it for nearly a year, and to date have yet to put anything bigger in there. I've got maybe 70GB left on my computer (out of 221), and roughly 5GB on the PS3.
I can't afford to buy one anymore. All the money I earn between now and the time I'm 18 is going straight into a 2010 Camaro fund.

I hear ya'. I'm waiting to see if I can get me a 1TB for about what the 320/500s are going for. It's way more than I need, I'll admit, but why do I want like 550 HP? LOL

It's just nice to have a lot more room to store more media, IMHO. I still use the original 80G for media storage too, in conjunction with the little case I bought for it. I back up my hole system on the old HDD too. It works great

My brother finally picked up a PS3 and I think he still prefers his 360. I don't blame him because, just from the minimal knowledge of the games I know it supports, I know there are at least a few I can't get on PS3, and that's pretty frustrating - especially ones that started out as Playstation-specific games

here is a nice little update for those of you (like me) who got or is getting the SLIM PS3. here are some pics that show you how to remove the HD in the newer model. FYI the part about backing up/restoring data is 100% the same as before, only the way you swap the drive out on the SLIM apposed to the FAT model, enjoy .

Step 1: turn PS3 upside down there is a small rectangular panel near the 'front' of the system that lifts out and swings away revealing the familiar BLUE SCREW.

Step 2: remove the blue screw and put it aside, then have the front area with the loading slot facing you.

Step 3: there is a panel on the bottom far right on the front of the PS3 below the loading slot, push it towards the right away from the PS3.

Step 4: remove the panel and place it off to the side, now you can see the HD's tray.

as on the side mounted HD access port, swing up the metal loop and slide the tray straight out.

Step 5: as on the older model use a small philips screwdriver and remove the 2 sets of screws on each side and remove the drive and replace it with the bigger one.

Once you put the tray back in with the new drive, place the cover back over the access port, then replace the blue screw and then swing shut and push in the bottom screw access port cover. now you just do as the other model and use the utility to put the backed up data onto the bigger drive (after it is formatted of course ).

i backed up my data from my old "FAT" PS3 before i sold it and re installed it onto my "SLIM" model. FYI the back up process only backs up the saves and some other downloaded stuff when migrating it to a different PS3. I still had to 'install' 3 of my PS3 games onto the system the first time I played them. but all my saves were still there. Now if you are upgrading a HD to a bigger size the back up will back up the saves AND the installed files for those games that are installed .

Yea. But I figured a mod would see this thread eventually and move it. I'm not in any hurry for it to be moved so a few hours won't hurt.

As an FYI to anyone looking to swap a new HD in it is very easy but I will caution you. In a recent firmware update( not the most recent maybe 2 before it) Sony changed the way Firmware can be updated to allow it to do smaller updates without the need to download the entire firmware making the file smaller and the process quicker. For some reason some people have had a problem changing HD's after this update. After the new HD is installed it fails to work and placing the original drive in fails as well. Essentially the console gets bricked. I'm not sure if this has been resolved yet. So you might want to check into it.
