Visibility to the rear is no problem. Just put the top down.

Don't blame the visibility. Doubt you would have seen it in any vehicle. You thought you were in the road and turned the wheel. That has nothing to do with visibility, but with driver awareness. No term paper needed for common sense.

JCunningham,

Sorry that happend to you girls car. The back up system works well but considering it's an electronic device you should never rely on it too much.

When I back up I take my Camaro slowly and take more time looking in mirrors, rear window in addition of using the sensors. Also the back up camera is a big help too.

All in all I love my system but in my book I never trust any electronic device too much...especially when it comes to my money!!

Back up censor says hey ignore that stealth mail box post painted for a highly classified program that the government installed with Obama bucks to take out the cars of people who should not be driving in the middle of the night, ( as it would have detected the mailbox only if it was swearing a blue streak ).
A sensor though detects given things when it can with in the parameters of what it was made for if functioning properly and given a chance to respond. Apparently you did not sense the post and that's too bad, and nothing of course ever makes up for being aware of your surroundings and a good dose of common sense. And to put this post online and blame it on the sensor is brilliant to CYA.............ROFL......Just pay to fix the car now.

The visibility in the Camaro is a subjective issue. I drove a Solstice before I got my Camaro and I think the Camaro's visibility is great when comparing it to what I had in the Solstice.

OP, Sorry to hear about your un-sensored backup. Maybe next time you could fold the backseat down and open your trunk then see thru the liner opening for better visibility.

Backing into a stable fixture is operator error. Live and learn.

I don't have any visibility isn't a problem if you have the mirrors adjusted correctly. Also if you turn your head and look out the back glass you have no problems. This was driver error not the cars fault.

They really only work for detecting cars when you are backing straight up into the car, or a solid wall or big object and for that, they are very useful imo.

Sorry to hear, OP. I don't have a camera but I will say I've never had a problem with my backup sensors. I back into spots 2-3 times/day in all kinds of areas and the sensors always work well. They've actually helped me a ton. I do realize things on these cars can malfunction or just plain break so it's HIGHLY possible that yours just weren't working correctly at the time.

I have to say the members on here come up with some funny responses to situations such as this. One of my favorites was quoted above.

ya I know it was my fault. I hit a inanimate object. but these sensors pick up everything.except this time. It was pitch black and I dont drink. This is in the country were you theres no street lights. the tiny back up lights dont provide much light at all. The mail box was also black. I never saw it in the camera and the sensors did not pick it up. Those were the only things I had to see behind me.
