My advice: if you can do it yourself, Do it. Time or money be damned that's the only way you are going to have it the way you want it. Sure there are absolute perfectionist shops out there but they are few and far between, I wouldn't just take it to 'some shop' just to pay someone to do it, then again I have trust issues...
Wow that is horrible esp with a big name company. I am/was planning to have speed inc out of Schaumburg il do ny install and tuning. I havr been talking to then and following a few of their ZR1 builds and Camaro builds.

Try and find people that weren't featured in a magazine or front and center of thier news feed/ photo feed. Those are the ones you want to take the reviews from. Otherwise you'll only get the glory story.

Fortunately, I have a buddy with a STI so we always pull the cars into the garage and spend some time with them.

If they take CC, I pay with CC (unless there is a surcharge). I pay CC for everything from a pack of gum, to the utilites in my home. Why?

1- You get buyers protection when paying with a CC, you don't get that with cash.
2- I get cash rewards: 5% on gas, 3% on groceries, 2% on everything else.
3- I rarley carry cash. You lose cash and it's likely gone for good. You lose a CC, no big deal. Cancel the card and move on.

I pretty much do everything in my garage except for things like wheels and other things that you need several special tools and equipment for. Like I wouldn't tackle a Cam install or SC but I would do any other bolt on.

credit card put the entire 5k on it.

I'm too OCD to allow anyone to touch my car. I got nervous when my dyno guy was strapping the car to the floor...LOL

These cars provide an excellent opportunity for a novice to learn how to do mechanical mods. There is abundant documentation, the powertrain is really easy to work on, there is plenty of working space on these cars, and you don't need a huge amount of special tools to do the work.

However, if you have no desire to learn or work on your car, hand over the cash to somebody else to do it for you. But, if you're like me, you feel a big sense of pride when a guy that's looking your car over asks, "Who's your engine guy?", and you answer, "Me."

All so far my husband and I, well except the Window Tinting, and the Clear Bra Wrap. Now we ordered the Noweeds Exhaust Diverters which I'm pretty certain we can do as soon as we find a day together and the weather cooperates. But I really wanted to install the JDP Colored Halo Kit and was also going to run two Red LEDs in the grille at the same time. We gave it a try and it turns out the difficulty level was too much for either of us. Getting the front clip/fascia off the ZL1 proved to be to difficult and when we checked around with local shops, forget it, the price for the shop time would run $400 or so and $300 plus for the kit, it just made it too expensive to do this install. This light kit was at the Top of The Wish List, but today I'll be shipping it back for a refund. Very Sad. I wanted those Red Halos and Red Grille so bad, it would've been the Perfect exact look I'm trying to achieve with this car. But the price is above my pay grade, great if I had the skill level to do it my/ourselves.
