The Cost?
Does anyone happen to know the cost of the Hennessey 650 package? Also, is the "650", RWHP or at the crank?
I dig the 3 year warranty aspect...

I have the HPE650 package on my ZL1. The HP is at the crank, and it cost $8k, including 3-year warranty.

The value of the packages is purely subjective. Hennesey offers a great warranty and you'll have the luxury of his badge on your car, which could potentially net you a better resale value... That's what the bulk of the cost gets you. As others have stated, you could get the same power and quality work from other shops for less cash but most don't offer a traditional warranty, if any at all. It boils down to what you want out of your car and whether resale or warranty are something you're interested in.
As for his past business practices, he did some pretty shady things in the late 90's/early 2000's that went far beyond "grenading" motors. A quick google search will provide you with the details. It's not my place, nor my intention, to be disrespectful in any way but the topic was brought up in another post and I wanted to touch on it. That being said, after his self-implosion on a few internet boards about 7 years ago, he seems to have cleaned up his act a bit and is still making some beast machines. |

John talks about the 8-10 year ago deal pretty openly. Business exploded past what he could keep up with, some people dipped out, a compromised situation was created, and some people were unhappy. Now he has a partner, and a general manager, and 40 other people on his team to help the workload, and we're still growing.
To be fair, you have to look at what he was doing 10 years ago, and what he was doing it with, which was quite impressive. As stated above all shops started off as the little guy at some point, but John's problem 8-10 years ago was his tiny shop EXPLODED and couldn't keep up. Builds got behind, and unfortunately a handful of customers were left unhappy, but a much much larger number were patient and loved their cars, and the company continued to where it is now, and all the customers who were unhappy were settled up with. When you go to Taco Bell and they mess up your order, you call pissed off. I've seen me do it. Do you call when they get it right though? Do you call after they fix it? I certainly don't. Human nature, and most of the internet stories were the same way. Use some basic critical thinking skills, could a company that truly does terrible acts build the Venom GT and have their cars available off the showroom at over 30 dealers, and have 5 international storefronts? Anyways, if you're interested in current pricing, or what we offer you're always welcome to email mikep@hennesseyperformance.com and I'll get you the latest information, or you can call us and ask for Mike Peters at 979.885.1300. We're also located at exit 713 on I-10 anyone and everyone is always more than welcome to stop by. We strive to offer the most reliable, warrantied horsepower on the market for people who want to drive their car and enjoy it. We've been in the business of making fast cars go faster since 1991, and will continue to do so for a long time. Give me a shout and I'll hook any of you up with a 10% C5 discount. |

I've personally been around the Hennessey shop ever since the 5th Gen Camaros came out when HPE was 1st to slap a Maggie on an IOM Camaro and hit the track. Yes they cater to a lot of high end clientele, but have without a doubt held true to taking care of the small guy too. Something John himself promised me they would do. Our Camaro club is treated to a track day each year (this will be year #5) and we're very familiar with the work done there. 1st class facility and 1st class work. You get what you pay for and the piece of mind that it's going to last.

I have always wanted to go down there and take a look at the Henessey shop. Someone let me know when the track day is scheduled and I will try to attend if it is open to random flunkies like me. It would not be any further a drive than the Texas mile I don't think...

Just my two cents, I live in Canada and researched various companies to upgrade my ZL1. I chose Hennessey because of there solid reputation in delivering cars on time with tried and tested components. Add a fantastic warranty and outstanding employees. Do you pay more, YES! Is it worth the money? ABSOLUTELY!! I upgraded to the HPE 700 package and am more than satisfied. I ran the car this weekend with 11.60 quarter mile times and 230 km an hour at the half mile mark. Please keep in mind that I haven't raced in 30 years.
I personally dealt with Blake, he was professional, courteous, knowledgable. He kept me informed throughout the build. And you wouldn't believe how good this car sounds. |
