In the case of hot film MAFs, the grid is heated to 75 degrees C. above incoming ambient air temperature. With the hot wire sensors, the wire is heated to 100 degrees C. above ambient temperature. As air flows past the sensing element, it cools the element and increases the current needed to keep the element hot. Because the cooling effect varies directly with the temperature, density and humidity of the incoming air, the amount of current needed to keep the element hot is directly proportional to the air "mass" entering the engine.
Great stuff, thanks!

What is the electrical connector's purpose that plugs into the side of the air intake tubing? Thanks in advance!

thats the connector plug from the harness/pcm that plugs into the MAF that is inside the intake tubing so the computer can get the readings from the MAF and calibrate the fuel tables for optimum performance.

A friend got this from Summit and said there was a noticeable difference...
just saying.. he was impressed. Only mods are a K&N typhoon and a Corsa exhaust.
Maybe its just in his head? any test results online for this product?

SERIOUSLY?

There's only like 50 CAI threads on the first couple pages of the forum.

Sure. If you are custom making a cold air intake you could fit the sensor and a section of the duct to yours. It may not be worth it other than to do something different.

Lol Your not kidding, these threads are so redundant here most of the times. It's the same questions asked in different ways. The mods should start closing some threads so members could use the search button. Just saying

No problem. And to be honest I don't think I've ever seen anyone else ask about taking the MAF sensor along with a portion of tubing with the sensor housing, to use on a custom made cold air intake.

So you expect to waltz in here, and have everyone spoon feed you because you're just too busy to spend 10min searching?
