To me I look at it like this. There is a big emission law coming 2016?-2018? And remember what happened last time there was a new big emission law? Hp #s went way down and not to be rude but pretty much after 1972 every car looked horrible.

generations in cars:

Current Gen: Loved / not much seen - most of them in excellent shape

prev Gen: Hated- dead / pretty common - most of them in good shape

Prev Gen: (reviving) / not very common - most of them in poor shape
(some of them in excellent shape)

Prev Gen: now icons of each era /HARD to find - most of them in restored shape
-----------------------------------------------------------------

now tell me that this is not true and soon the same is going to happened to the 5 gen

I remember the aftermath. My first car was a used 1978 Camaro LT I bought in 1987. I thought it had a 350 cu but it actually had a CA emissions 305 (the engine compartment sticker was missing). That car had no power. Maybe 130 HP. Luckily my older brother had a 350 he was building which I talked him out of. I think I got about 5 MPG after that was installed.

i had a friend who got a new 79 camaro LT with a 350 in it. it was bare bones auto with air cond, but, even though the hp numbers were down, i think it still ran fast when i drove it. but its crazy with todays cars when v6 engines put out more horsepower than the older v8 engines. My Dad had a 71 Pontiac with a 400 that was fast, but even then was only rated at like 250/260 hp.

Resale value on our cars is the best out there don't worry about it be able to get good money for it when it's time to upgrade.

Honestly, yeah, probably. I mean, think about the phones from 5 years ago compared to the phones today, or the computers, or TV's, or cars. Everything becomes obsolete eventually. But that doesn't mean you can't still enjoy it

Lol. Just enjoy your car and live in the moment. Tech and the auto industry are constantly changing. If you are so concerned about it keeping up with 2018 models, then in 4 years trade in your car for one of them. In 2017, the 2018 models should be coming out. You don't have to wait the full 5 years to pay off your car. Personally, I plan to keep my car as long as possible unless things change in my personal life and I need a bigger car.

All vehicles become obsolete the following year.

If they continue spending money on electric cars, charging stations, solar energy, etc. many gas powered cars may become obsolete or not worth driving in 5 years. The U.S. may be obsolete in 5 years if we keep going the way were going. Maybe they will start implanting ECU's in us. Don't tune or you'll void you.

Then I started thinking: in 2018, if I do add a Supercharger, CAI, exhaust system/headers, brakes/tires, all the bells and whistles, will it still be able to hold up against the technological advancements of 2018 stock Mustangs, Camaros, etc?

I'm new to the entire car hobby thing so I probably sound like a babbling idiot.

Opinions? Thoughts? Comments?
Honestly, I am glad you made this thread because I have thought this exact same thing and had the same thought process.

I decided I will mod a few things I want and enjoy here and there simply because I plan to hold onto this car for a very long time. This car was my dream car from day one. It is something I worked my ass off for and it will always remain a emblem of that for me. Even if it becomes a garage queen and not my DD anymore it will always stay in my ownership.

With that being said, that is how I am justifying modifying it. I will do the mods that appeal to me and enjoy them for what they are.

Never compare what you have to what others have, its a easy entrance to the road of unhappiness.

Everything becomes obsolete man, computers, phones especially change monthly. Be happy with what you have and make it your own!
