I know a guy who gently sands the stuff, and then it adheres... Or you can tape it off and put some type of matte black paint. That is the only way I have seen it fixed...but on my last couple of cars it was a non issue

This is the best way to get around this issue. I've seen this method used several times and it works. I've also seen a tinter sand them and then use some glue on the area. On my last car the tint shop sanded them and the tint never lifted.

Just find a tinter who knows what he/she's doing. This was a common issue on the 3rd and 4th gen cars. I just had my 2010 tinted and it looks perfect. If it doesn't stay that way, I've got a lifetime warranty

No, I had my windows tinted a couple days ago, and there is a small strip around the area where the dot matrix is. Doesnt look horrible - but I'm not stoked on it either.

This is the dot matrix that has been on front and back glass for 20-25 years now. In the vast majority of cases, you end up with a "ghost line" that is shown in the 2nd photo down. This line is created because the tint cannot get down into and adhere to the valley between the dots. The two ways I know of to get rid of that ghost line completely is to sand the dots down or to use black vinyl to cover them up. I've heard the main reasons dot matrix is there is to trim out the window and to help cover up the "unsightly" adhesive used to seal the glass. I do not buy the "sun glare" argument.

You definitely need a blackout around the edge but the dots are supposed to make it look better. I don't like the look of them at all.... I'd much rather have a hard line for the glass blackout.

A good tint shop will do it proper, so it adhears complete and you see no air ir bubbles, if you see that........ you went to a bad tint shop.

thats the difference between a $150 and $250 jobb. bad tint shops use bad film and shotty application techniques.
u get what u pay for unfortunately.

I am in San Antonio also - a crisp 104 degrees today - I need to tint my windows. Anyone in the area know of a good shop that can deal with the dot matrix issue? I know exactly what SHag is talking about - had it on my Cobra - hated it.

Might have to just cut the film before the dots start.
