I think it is against the law for the dog to be on the freeway.
It should be the owner of the dog which should pay for the damage.
The guy is doing 45 and the freaking dog wanders in front of his car.
He did the right thing.
I also would be pissed about my car being hit by a dog.
IMHO.

Yeah, in San Diego, you have bigger problems than dogs in the road...(real signs posted on I-5)

It was on the highway. It was pouring rain. I'm not going to put my life in jeopardy to pat down a dead dog for dog tags.
Ridiculous post from you.

this guy is no better than mike vick! someone notify PETA!

super sad - i especially feel bad for the dog. like everybody always says, you can always fix the car, but you can't always fix someones health. if the situation is as you said, of course there's nothing that could have been done :(

Take the front end off (see above). It's not hard.

Put the front end in a room with heat. You should be able to pop it back out when it warms up.

Is the paint fractured?

All I can say, is I hope you hit him well enough to where it killed him on impact. It would suck if he had to suffer than last moments on his life in the pouring rain on the highway.

I've slammed on my brakes for squirrels and cats before. I'm a dog owner so I'd feel horrible if I hit a dog. I would stop without a doubt. Raining or not.

Now that I think about it, I've had to swerve to miss alligators too.

He went into the median.
I'm heartless. I feel bad about the dog dying. But there was nothing I could do. Even though i knew there was no way he survived, I went down and circled back to make sure. And he was laying on the side of the road.

It wasn't the fact that it was raining. It was a busy highway. The fact that it was raining and heavily trafficked road is why I would not stop.

Good call. People are worried about the dog, I'm glad you're ok, no accident was caused by it, sorry about your bumper but that is a very fixable thing. Nothing you could do bud. And for anyone thats gonna tell me you should stop when you hit an animal, I traditionally do. But only so I can make sure it's dead with my trusty .45,my knife, or even my bare hands. No animal messes up my car and lives
