I always thought of muscle car as a sub category of sports car.

I think of any high performance car as a sports car and that there are different types: muscle cars, roadsters, exotics, supercars, etc. with some of those categories overlapping into each other.

I could be wrong but thats how I think of it.

The Chevelle is the only muscle car in that group. On top of that, the Nova is hardly a heavy car. It's a compact.
big block Camaros were muscle cars...ss nova 396 were muscle cars as well. The Camaro and mustang had to have the big blocks to fall into the muscle car catagory
